Lexington Catholic 55 Mason Co. 41

Recommended Posts

Final. Was between a 5-10 point lead for Lex. Cath pretty much the whole game, despite the 7-2 early Mason County lead, but Mason County sounded tired at the end. Novosel also struggled the first half with no field goals and only 2 points. Had she been able to connect the first half, this would be a different ball game. I guess you could say Mason County "hung in there", but too tired to pull it out at the end... little to no rest for the starters.

Chambers was the bright spot for Mason County, she had 20. Cline had 13, most of those coming from the free throw line late in the game. Litzinger had 11.

Brianna Green was absolutely on fire, she had 22, with 5 3 pointers. Novosel had 13, 11 in the second half.

Despite Lexington Catholic's poor game, they still pulled this one out by 14.

I agree, was a little closer than the final score. Mason brought it within 4, then Catholic would go on a little run, and take it back out to 10 or 13. Mason just doesn't have a bench to give their big the rest they need during the game. Green was on fire, everytime I turned it on I heard her name for a basket or rebound and pass underneath for a lay-up. Good luck to both teams the rest of the season.

Yeah, they substituted, just not for their seniors, just the role players. I don't think Cline or Litzinger received a break at all, and Chambers just received a very little one. That's why Mason comes out so tired late in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Still a good effort, though...Lex. Cath just too strong.

I'd have to disagree with this. It never was a large lead, but the final 2 quarters it was at least a 10 point lead pretty much the whole way through....in other words, when the game mattered.

False, Mason had it down to 4 points early in the 4th quarter. The lead was at 8 at the half, both of which are under the 10 points that you say above. Lex Cath girls are nothing really flashy, just a group of girls that are hard workers on both ends of the court. Hats off to the Lady Knights. As good of a player Green is, she that much better of a person to chat with.

As bad as Mason hit from the outside, they were still within striking distance throughout the game. As far as the conditioning, its between the ears, mental and something that if they want to accomplish goals in March will have to forget. When your 4 points down to the top ranked team, you don't get tired, you reach down and get something extra.

I would also like to say something about the attendance tonight at the girls game. It was amazing to see the difference in the crowds from the girls game to the boys game. I think its an injustice to the girls, one that they notice, and one certainly I believe that they don't appreciate. I guess some things just never change and never will.

I agree. I did not attend this game; however, on the radio as I listened, there definately wasn't as much cheering going on, so I just assumed not as many people were there. It's a shame, really. People pay the price for a ticket that includes 2 games, but only go to one. The truth is, most people just aren't as interested in girls basketball.

The best word to describe the crowd for the girls basketball game was terrible in my opinion.

I'm not surprise at the small crowd ... have you guys seen what type of crowd Lex Cath brings to the girls' state tournament? Parents and a few students ... 15 at best ... a big school like that and they don't support girls basketball ... what a shame! As far as Mason goes, they had a long way to travel and since the game started at 6 ... they do have an excuse ... if it had been in Maysville I know their crowd would've been bigger!
