I believe that to truly define the term "evangelical" or any of it's derrivatives, you have to decide the specific characteristics to apply to the term. For instance, evangelism does not HAVE to mean an oral rhetoric you cite to the masses, or going door to door, or preaching. Evangelism is also good deeds, good intent, quiet effort, without ever mentioning the name Christ or Lord or God. It's so much more than the literal definitions in any dictionary. I get really torqued when people say "Evangelicals will vote for _____". Who are they really talking about? I consider a Priest to be an "evangelical", per the secular definition. Many, if not most, priests I personally know, support candidates far from the "socially conservative issue" platform. Does the fact that you belong to a protestent denomination of some sort (other than LDS) give you a more firm hold on the term "evangelical"? Really....it's such an abuse of a very important concept, and really not worthy of inclusion in political debates.

January 8, 200818 yr During one of my debates I was told "I was not a Christian, but a Baptists". I told the Preacher..."The bible doesn't mention the Baptists Church, but it does mention the Way to become a Christian, a pattern you have to follow, and I have done that. I belong to a Baptist church because of the fellowship it offers, so I'm a Christian and a member of the Baptists Church". I believe the article is also weird by putting Huckabee as a Baptist and McClain a Christian. There is a mention of Churches in Revelation seven of them from different cities. McCain attends North Phoenix Baptist Church where Richard Jackson was the pastor for many years. It's a more moderate Southern Baptist Church. He was baptized a member of the Presbyterian Church if I remember correctly.
