"started a middle school team"

 

Boy wouldn't that be nice, every other sport has a middle school team, why not do a middle school fastpitch team. I grew up in a community that had summer leagues, although at that time it was slowpitch, but we couldn't wait till spring to sign up and play. When I moved to PC I signed my daughter up for summer league and just assumed it would be softball, to my surprise it was a co-ed baseball team. The summer recreation in PC tried to put a fastpitch summer league together but it only lasted a couple of years. We have had others in the community try to put together teams for the summer but they just don't seem to draw enough girls. Our high school team has even held clinics trying to get girls interested in playing the game. Maybe if it was a school sponsored sport more girls would come out. The only choice they have now is to tryout for the high school team and as a parent I did not like my daughter practicing with upperclassmen when she was in the 6th grade. I don't feel that there is enough training of the youngsters when the coaches have a varsity team to be concerned with.

 

Mason County has also started a middle school team. With their numbers a lot of the MS kids are going to end up playing both MS and JV. But I think that it will make for a bright future. The Lady Royals probably will take some lumps this year but they will continue to improve every time out.

The middle school situation I don't think is a unique issue to one school.

 

Had a conversation with Bishop Brossart's coach Mel Webster this weekend and he indicated that his entire freshmen team would be nothing but 7th and 8th graders. Probably not nary a freshmen on it.

 

The JV team will be freshmen and sophomores.

 

And that from a school that should have all the resources in NKY for a MS team.

I have talked to several that their daughters made the BCMS softball team, and they have a very full schedule. It must be catching on at other schools for sure.

 

In Paris the county park system has a summer league for girls softball. I have read many editorials from parents very satisified with the Bourbon County Park Director and that league. Sounds like girls fastpitch softball is getting into "full swing" in Bourbon County.:thumb:

What I don't get is if Montgomery County is such the clear cut favorite, why did they not get a single vote for the top 25 in state while Clark had some.

Just the coaches that voted I suppose for the week. I'm a Clark Co fan, but will have to give the edge to Montgomery. The polls are pretty meaningless most of the time IMO. With the exception of the top 5 or so teams & sometimes u can run into some favorites staying up there due to the name on the jersey. I will def be making an appearance at the Clark/Montgomery game in Winchester. Should be a good game.
