My only two questions is how strong was that 8th grade team these two girls (Moss and Crittenden) came from? And how sad is the coach who lost them to the varsity squad?

How sad is it?? Middle school is for development only. Win/loss records mean nothing at that level. If the 2 girls who moved up were ready to play varsity that opens the door for 2 more girls to get playing time at the middle school level who would not be playing otherwise. I see it as a plus for the development of the varsity program. :thumb:

If they are good enough to play varsity, let them play. Can't worry about how the middle school coach feels.

Name of the game in girls basketball. I agree with the above poster. If a program is only worried about W's at the MS level then their priorities are misguided.

I agree 100%! However, I know of a school in the 9th Region that will NOT allow 8th graders to move up because they don't want to hurt their middle school sports! And they have a few 8th graders that would help them right now at the Varsity level......

Cat Pride24, not sure about Holmes. They are a good team. They have several girls who have the inside and outside game down. Does Ryle have many seniors on the team? I heard they are a fairly young team.

 

I have watched both play, I think it would be a good game, but my money would be on Ryle.

Not in NKY, middle school girls basketball doesn't start until volleyball is over toward the end of October and goes through the middle of February. This is why you won't see many NKY teams play in many of the early tournaments in other parts of KY.

That is certainly that school's choice to do. Maybe they are more worried about keeping their upperclassmen happy than winning ballgames?? If you are a smaller school you probably need middle schoolers more than large schools like Ryle "should" but Ryle's program has not been very strong and if you have "special" talent that is ready for the varsity level and can help the team I say move them up. It helps the development of those players and allows you to develop more younger players in your middle school program.

Ryle has been winning but I saw they lost lastnight. They really haven't played anybody yet. This second half of the season will tell. Hope they can prove themselves and keep up the hard work.
