Hows Henry Co. going to look?

Henry lost their head coach from last year but their new head coach was an assistant last year. They only lost 2 starters from last years team and have 6 returning starters this year. They have 3 pitchers in Cox, Lyons, and Palmer that are the core of the pitching rotation and Williams and Bryant can also be thrown in their with varsity starts.

They are a deep team and will have a tough schedule with PRP, Male, Oldham Co. and others on there. This years team should be the best they have had in recent years.

Carroll has alot of young arms coming back. However if I remember correctly only 2 saw significant Varsity action last year in Bickers and Rippey. As with every team, pitching will be the key. Ricketts should add some depth allowing CC to develop some of the younger arms. They really need to utilize the JV this year to develop the younger pitchers as well. If a solid plan is put in place CC could actually be in the hunt for a regional title for the next few years.

Anyone know anything about Walton Verona baseball? How will they look this year? Any good players to speak of?

Not sure how they're going to be this year. IMO, pretty poor behavior by some of those involved with coaching varsity baseball, this winter at the basketball games. Hopefully they'll get more support from the school than what they've shown.

What happen to their coach from last year, we played them last year seemed like he was happy there? Great we have them in the opener and of course we'll probably get Cox again.

Yes, he graduated and I'm sure they were sad to see him go, but if I remember correctly they had a few other ones that pitched quit well............Bickers, Yager, Hendricks, Welch, Craig, Proctor

Welch will not be pitching this year for Varsity or JV just so u know. He has a shoulder problem that prevents him from pitching

Sorry to hear that Welch has a shoulder problem. Hopefully some of the other pitchers can step up to the plate.

Does Welch even play baseball? There was a lot of talk on here last year about him, but I didn't see his name on the roster.

OK, is he related to Kieth? What grade is he in? Welcome to the site.

He is not related and I think he is a Soph this year.

So what did everyone do on the first day of practice?

It will be a long season for the Owen Co. We have a real tough schedule. We have only 3 returning starters. Only one hitter over .300 and 1 pitcher with a varsity win. Maybe by District time we'll be ready.

Don't sell them short. They lost a lot, probably the best 1st baseman in the 8th last year, and also some good senior leaders, but some of it was cancerous, and everybody knows that source . Ogden is good for a win a week, plus a district and region win. I AM concerned that the schedule is so steep. They have to keep from getting their heads down early if we take some whippings. Your assessment about taking a little time is right on target.

I look for big things from Walton this year.
