Overall, this is an interesting idea, but comes with concerns as others have outlined. The big hurdle, IMO, is attendance. If you get enough gate money in you can overcome the financial burdens of the increased expenses.

 

I could see this working if you could schedule in Saturday games like nees suggested, and maybe even with Saturday double headers.

 

A game in Lexington between Belfry and Corbin on a Friday night would attract a decent gate by Belfry and Corbin fans, and a few locals if their team was playing out of the area or on a bye week.

 

But imagine the better crowd if that game were played in Lexington by a host school on a Saturday along with another game. Maybe Belfry vs Corbin at 4:30 and Bell Co vs Henry Clay at 7:30.

 

That essentially becomes a mid season bowl game, and even if you use a host school (for the resources) I'm not sure if you could offset the benefit of just having a home and home with a more local school.

That is true. However, this would only be a once in a while thing giving schools that would otherwise never get together a chance for something a little different. It would not be forced on anyone, it just might be fun to do once every two or three years to give the kids a unique experience.

 

Isn't there a team outside of your area you would really like to see your boys get a chance to play?

 

If $1 was added to the ticket price by the host school, most if not all of the added expenses would be covered.

No, keep the high school games on high school fields at one of the participating high schools. Nothing kills atmosphere more than being on a neutral field where no one has a home field advantage.
