December 11, 200718 yr Please explain. I believe all of these issues could improve. Sure they will be there, but will they be in better shape. For the record, I am not a supporter of abortion in most instances, and in no time am I a supporter of partial birth abortions. There are just many more issues that affect my everyday life, and those are the issues I vote on. I believe a person is ultimately responsibe for the way they live their life. Someone who has an abortion will be responsible for their actions, I don't feel like it is up to me to judge them. We all have a great ruler who will be the only judge that matters in the end. I listened to the republican debate, and the majority of the candidates said they would not pass a law making abortion illegal, they would instead leave it up to the individual states. There were a couple of exceptions, but they were the radical right wing candidates. So, you believe Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee are radical right wing candidates? 150 years ago, would you have voted for a candidate that was in line with your thinking on the issues that affect your everyday life but thought the slavery of blacks was acceptable?
December 11, 200718 yr What does the enslavement of blacks have to do with abortion? As a history teacher I just don't get that comparison. I think they are farther to the right than the other candidates, especially Huckabee. I am a bit intrigued by Romney though!

I think it is the social issue of today that slavery was in the mid-1800's. I pray that 100 years from now, that generation looks at us today with abortion being outlawed and say what were they thinking? Like we look at that generation and say how could they think that slavery was acceptable. People in those days looked at a black person and did not see a human life. People these days see an unborn baby and do not see a human life.

Here is my dilemma on the issue. If a female is raped & becomes pregnant. I feel that it should be up to her to have the abortion or not. It is not the babies fault but I think she will ultimately have to decide. If, I think it may be okay for her to have the abortion in this instance, how can I say "ban all aboritions, except those that......." To me, you are either Pro-life or not with ZERO grey areas or hypotheticals. For me, since I think there are some reasons & situations that abortions may be okay (including my family if something may happen), I can't say ban them. For every situation that I think is critical, others may think there are other reasons that are more severe. Also, if you ban abortions there will be many other problems that need to be addressed first. 1. adoption process & cost 2. costs of added children in orphanges 3. Huge # of added children in homes 4. foster care system
December 11, 200718 yr Now that Gov. Huckabee is getting up there in the polls, his past is now being reviewed with a fine tooth comb. Which is the primary reason most political candidates suck.

Poor people would use coat hangers, drugs, etc. to get an abortion and the rich would go to Canada or a state where it was legal. 2. Birth control would be the next target. Also, if you declare a fetus a human and a citizen, what about an egg? or sperm? Both have the potential to become human so destroying/wasting them would be the same as an abortion. Also, would getting pregnant in the USA mean that the potential child is a citizen? That wouldn't fly with the anti-immigration crowd. Abortion=Slavery. Apples and oranges. No one can look at someone of a different race and not say they are not alive, and people. A lot of persons in the country can look at a fetus and say that it's not a human. While I'm personally opposed to abortion, it's not my place to tell a woman what she can and can't do with her body, and frankly we've got more important things to worry about. The reason the Huckster is getting so much support is he is playing the religion card. He certainly wouldn't get my vote (no Repub will this time) mainly b/c all he's doing is playing the religion card. He's pandering and it's paying off. Although I hope his campaign does like Pat Robertson (win Iowa then flame out), I worry it won't. If he gets the nomination then expect the religious right in this country to mount a "moral cursade" like never before.

Pro-choice proponents love to throw that out there as an emotional part of the process, when reality shows that 99% of the time, the pregnancy WAS NOT the result of a rape but sexual intercourse that the women participated VOLUNTARILY in. And absolutely, the last paragraph has to be done. In fact, I think it should be done now and when Roe v Wade is overturned, we are on the ground ready to go with the options and not to that point that we are beginning to work on these issues.

ON the bolded, are you for legalizing all drugs since you don't want to tell a female what she can and cannot do with her body? On Huck, is the Fair Tax a religion card? And that moral crusade that you are worried about is "put your neighbor before yourself." "Love your enemy as you love yourself" Those are bad things?
December 12, 200718 yr All democrats are going to heck!! that's the message that's been ringing since William Clinton left office. According to you, I must be going to heck, cause I am a Democrat.
December 12, 200718 yr According to you, I must be going to heck, cause I am a Democrat. The language from the "far right" over the last 10 years involving politics and religion has caused a tie between republicans and religion. And the language is sided to appear that democrats are wrong and republicans are right. I am also a proud democrat!!

I am not willing to say abortion is WRONG when I say it may be OKAY even 1% of the time. Even in rape, the baby did nothing wrong. So, to me, you can only be 100% pro-life with no grey areas. It is not hte babies fault you were raped so how can you justify "murder" in 1% of those cases.

I don't want to put words in your posts, so let me clarify: You find it acceptable that this society says a baby "who did nothing wrong" can be killed for 99 times out of 100 reasons other than rape? And if I remember the stat right, the whole "mother's life in danger" argument was like 3-4-5%. So, about 90 times out of 100 it is for not wanting to be burdened with a baby or lifestyle choice. And you are okay with that?

And the language is sided to appear that democrats are wrong and republicans are right. I am also a proud democrat!! The language is a result of the democrats NOT SUPPORTING issues and values that the so-called religious right deem importance. Do you vote for candidates that best support your views on matters? Why should it be any different for the supposed "religious right?" Shouldn't they vote for candidates that best represent them and their views and values? I would definitely be labed as religious right, (I think Democrats call us something like Blue Dog Democrats) but voted for Ken Lucas, Democrat, because he represented the values and views I hold dear. Is that the big bad thing you are talking about? I am voting and be vocal for people that represent my views and values? You find me a Democrat candidate that thinks abortion is a scourge on our society and wants to work to overturn it and he will probably get my support. PLEASE find me one.
