Lone Oak will score at least 3-4 times, probably 5 or 6, there offense is that good, but, the problem is they'll probably give up 6-7, maybe 8 or 9...

It has been pretty well established that the strength of schedule for Lone Oak and Lexington Catholic were very different - however, I did not realize how different the strength of schedule truly was until I analyzed it a little more closely. Not counting for the out of state teams that both Lex Cath and Lone Oak played, nor counting the team records twice for opponents that were played a second time in the playoffs, the cumulative record for Lone Oak's opponents was 61-67 while that of Lex Cath was 81-42. Furthermore, Lone Oak played six opponents who were in a lower class than 4A and never played an opponent in a higher class. Lex Cath played only one opponent in a lower class than 4A and played four teams who were in either 5A or 6A.

I don’t think that this necessarily matters at all in a championship game, but I thought I would throw those numbers out there.

Singin to the choir, PB.. All year long, the people around WKy have hammered Lone Oak on there schedule. Supporters of the Mayfields, Tilghmans, Marshall Cos, etc, who typically play tough schedules have downplayed Lone Oaks accomplishments because of it. However, they have played good competition in the playoffs and just keep on ticking. One thing about Lone Oak, they aren't your typical powerhouse program who could compete yr in yr out with the better programs and in normal yrs no one would notice this type of schedule, but, it just so happens they have one of those special teams this year. In most years, PTilghman, Mayfield, Ft Campbell, marshall co, Graves Co, etc. wouldn't even schedule Lone Oak because they would be looking for a tougher game to challenge them more, so, it's not all lone Oaks fault for the weak schedule. With that said, they are still a very, very solid team THIS year and thats really all that matters...

Lone Oak's schedule compared to Lex Catholic is as different as daylight & darkness. However, Lone Oak played a typical Lone Oak schedule that they have been playing for years. Its pretty much the same as the 2001 season when Lone Oak was 0-10 & only scored 19pts while giving up over 50 pts. I think Lone Oak's schedule was just fine & it didn't matter come playoff time. Just what kind of schedule does a team that has had just 3 winning seasons in 25 years schedule anyway ? I don't think you would schedule ST X or FTH or Trinity etc.

Well hopefully this year is an indicator of things to come for Lone Oak and maybe Coach Haskins is on the verge of setting a real tradition there. It looks like there is a good interest by the students at Lone Oak (I think I counted about 50 or so kids on the roster) and lots of participation is always key to having a successful program. It would be nice to see Lone Oak have good teams year in and year out and maybe some of those 'Elite' programs like Tilghman, Mayfield, Marshall, Graves etc. will schedule Lone Oak in years to come.

I for one do not believe the weakness of schedule will hurt Lone Oak in this championship game, but this thread was a little dead and I wanted to promote a little discussion!

You know what? If I didn't have a dog in this fight, I would be pulling for Lone Oak, too! Now that truly is a rags to riches story. From an 0-10 season in 2001 to a 14-0 season in 2007 - that's awesome. And 19 points for the season? Lone Oak scores that in a five minute span this season! Good luck again guys - it will be fun come Saturday.

Lone Oak is a growing area of Paducah. Several newer subdivisions in that area and alot of folks are moving out of the inner city and into these areas. Plus, I believe, but, i'm not 100% sure, the Paducah/McCracken Co school board went to an open enrollment policy where kids have the choice of Heath, Reidland, Tilghman and Lone Oak to choose from. Westsider may can explain that one better. But, if thats the case, with the success of the program now, an established and well known Head Coach in Jack Haskins and a few other factors, I could see Lone Oak becoming a powerhouse program in the next few years...
