I know that people were talking about the post game still in the prediction thread, but I figured that this game deserved its own thread. So the people who actually didn't look in the prediction thread sees the result of the game...

I know people said last year Ludlow played a weak schedule, but I want people to take notice right now. That in the first game of the year Ludlow just played a top 10 team and won by 9 even though they had a ton of turnovers. Im sure as always people will forget this though as the year goes on. Ludlow also will be playing a few more teams in the top 10 this year as the season goes on, so the whole weak schedule talk shouldn't exist this year...

Ashley Daughtery of Ludlow who I believe is one of the top 10 players in the region, and close to being top 5 IMO. Had 23 points and 11 rebounds I believe. While one of her two runningmates down in the post in Julie Hardin had 10 blocks in the game. The guards for Ludlow struggled a little bit with Brossart's pressure defense. But that is to be expected for the first game of the year, when Ludlow is still trying to get over the loss of their 5 year starter at point in Kassi Wofford. As the season goes on, I think we will see the Ludlow's guards really start to play well, and be a very tough combination to go along with the great post players they have....

Good job Ludlow. Sounds like you maybe didn't have your best game but still beat a solid Brossart program. The Daughtery girl is my early choice to be Player of the Year in her Division this year. Good luck to both programs this year.

It was a good win on opening night for Ludlow! And I have no idea what/who

they played last year for it to be called a weak schedule. Heck, I don't know anything about the teams on their schedule. I went and watched Conner/Holmes as two top ten teams and was pretty impressed. I went to watch Ludlow/Brossart as two more top teams and was unimpressed. Neither of those teams could be with in 15 of Conner/Holmes. So it appears there is a real drop off in the top ten. At least to me being an outsider coming in feeling my way through NKY bball. A good team will be able to shut down Hardin, and slow down Daughtery.

So does the weak schedule complaint from locals come from the teams that were hanging on the wall? Because I hadn't seen any of those teams even get top ten votes?

But back to the game. Does Ludlow always just sit in a 3-2 zone? Or was this just they didn't have the confidence to go man to man against the smaller/faster team?

Good luck to both teams as it was obvious they both have good, young coaches that are teaching fundamentals! It is always good to see that!!!

I don't know enough or see enough of Ludlow to be able to say what type of defenses they play game after game but in reviewing their schedule on the KHSAA website it appears to me that for a school their size and the fact that they have to play all the teams in Div III twice (That needs to be looked at) that their out of conference schedule is pretty strong. They do play Boone Cty, Holmes, Dixie, St Henry, Scott, Ryle, Brossart and possibly look to meet either Newcath and HC in the Class A Tourney. So I would question anyone who says that Ludlows girls schedule isn't very competitive.

I have to admit this score surprises me as much as the Pendleton/St. Pat score did. For opposite reasons.

Not a surprise. Brossart is young and not going to be a top team this year. Ludlow is solid and, depending on the draw, make a run similar to last year in the 9th region All-A. Right now they have to be considered one of the top contenders.

IMO it is between Ludlow and NCC for the All "A" crown in the 9th region this year. Atleast them two have to be considered the favorites...

That's accurate. Both teams lost 1 key player, so someone will have to step up. Although the All-A is an emotional roller-coaster. NCC almost got bounced by St. Henry last year and then peaked. Bellevue got all jacked up for Ludlow last year, and then had no gas left for the final against NCC.
