I unfortunately did not get to see the whole game because my fingers got too cold and, in the process of transferring from the minivan to the house, I missed one score.

 

With only 32 seconds gone in the first qtr, senior QB Trent Steelman tossed a three yd TD pass to soph WR Sam Howard. "Automatic Max" Oldham booted the PAT, and the Purples led 7-0. This drive lasted only three plays, and Steelman accounted for 57 of the 60 yards on runs of 15 and 42 yards. With 7:36 left in the first qtr, senior RB Jared Carpenter scored on a two yd run. "Automatic Max" banged the kick through again, and BGHS held a 14-0 lead. Soph RB Lavance Anderson hit paydirt on a four yd scamper with 3:08 left in the first, and BGHS led 21-0. 1:24 before the end of the qtr, "Automatic Max" hit the second FG of his career, from 40 yds out, and the Purples led 24-0 at the end of one.

 

With 2:22 left in the first half, senior WR D.L. Moore caught a 17 yd scoring strike from Steelman. "Automatic Max" made it 31-0 with his PAT. Then, with only five seconds left in the half, Moore caught another strike from Steelman, this one from 13 yards out. This PAT from Max was special, as it was his 68th on the season, breaking the record of 67 PATs by Casey Tinius in 2005! That's how the first half ended, with the Purples up 38-0.

 

I didn't catch the score that kicked in the Mercy Rule...only that it was in the third qtr and it put the Purples up 45-0. The final score of the game came on a six yd pass from junior QB J.P. Jackson to soph WR Wes Cole. The broadcast neglected to mention who booted the PAT. Final: BGHS 52, Grayson County 0!:thumb:

 

I'd like to mention that the Grayson Co roster was heavy with sophs and freshmen. Better days surely seem to be in the near future for the Cougars! No matter how badly the cards are stacked against them, they don't quit! The Cougars ended the 2007 season at 7-4.

 

BGHS moves on and will host a Warren Central team hoping to gain some payback from the shellacking they took at the hands of the Purples earlier in the season. I have a feeling that it will be a madhouse at The Big El next week!!:fight:

This will be the fourth postseason meeting between Bowling Green and Warren Central, but unfortunately doesn't figure to be nearly the classics the first three had been. The three previous postseason meetings have been decided by a combined 12 points. Bowling Green leads the postseason series 2-1, with wins of 14-10 in 1991 and 7-6 in 2000. Warren Central's win was the biggest, both in margin and importance, taking a 7-0 victory in the 1993 regional championship.

 

One odd little quirk is that despite the dominance that BG has enjoyed over Central, they've never once been the highest seeded team going into the matchup. As a result, this will be the first postseason game between the two at El Donaldson Stadium.

The "mystery score" is resolved! Junior RB Tevin Barksdale ran one in from 20 yards out with 8:48 left in the third qtr. "Automatic Max" made it 45-0.

 

"Automatic Max's" PAT team record now stands at 70 for the season. He is 75 for 76 for his career and is now two of four on FGs...and he has one year left.

 

Barksdale is knockin' at the door for 100 pts on the season. His run put him at 96 pts on the season.
