Why would they be grateful to play somewhere they've already been against someone they've already played? The playoffs are a reward. I would rather make a big production out of it like rent a bus or stay overnight and I would definitely rather do it on a Friday night.

 

Instead, their reward for making their first playoff is to hustle onto a bus after school on a Thursday, drive to Pineville to play a team who has already smoked them this season, hustle back onto the bus to get home in time to get some sleep because they have school the next day. That was my point about intra-district playoffs. Ashland, Louisa, Morehead etc. are more than 90 minutes from McCreary.

 

Besides, Rock/KC should draw a good crowd on their own.

This is exactly the sentiments that are being looked at this year with the new structure. There is strong support to take only the TOP TWO teams in each district and make the regular season mean something. There are several 0-10 and 1-9 teams in the playoffs because they are from districts with lesser number of teams. Yes, you did just have to play Bell and we did have to go a distance to play. Winning the district now only means that you will get to make a decision on when you play, and that's about it. Makes sense to take advantage of it. How in the world do basketball teams survive in KY with games on Tuesday nights!? Seems like there is travel and school the next day for those?

Everyone in Mccreary Co is very glad that the top 4 go to the playoffs. McCreary co plays in maybe the toughest district in 4-A and making the #4 spot isn't easy and with the Raiders working their way up it will become a challenge year in and year out to make that #4 spot. Mccreary is making a big deal of this game and the playoff atmosphere. They will show up in a charter bus and will be dinning at a steak house along the way. The boys are excited and the coaches are glad to get the extra week of work. As far as playing Bell Co the first week, what can you say: you kick it off play hard for 4 quarters, shake their hands and enjoy the charter bus ride home. I am sure the Bell Co fans will give the McCreary team and fans a great reception and make McCreary's first playoff experience a great one.
