Don't tell me it's the great educational opportunities at Mason County. What are the circumstances that led this kid to end up at Mason? Wasn't he from Lexington? If not legit, his prescence cheapens and tarnishes Mason's one and only state championship and puts an asterisk (like Barry Bonds) on any future state titles.

Mason County IS one of the highest performing high schools in the state on the state testing. I would safely guess they are the HIGHEST performing school in the 10th region. So academically and according to the state testing, they are one of the best if not the best educational opportunity in the 10th region.

And is that the reason that Phil Barner transferred to Mason County? It would be interesting to know where his parents are working locally and living.

I don't have a clue about the situation and have never heard of Phil Barner before.

The bolded came across as a little sarcastic which drew my response. I am not from Mason but am a teacher and a little senstive to people make comments about educational opportunities. Sorry for misreading it.

I might respectfully argue this statement--Have you seen the test numbers? % of graduates going to college? Graduating from college? There might be a few schools able to dispute this statement!!

It is now being reported on the Scott thread that Baker will not play this year. If this is accurate, this hurts Scott quite a bit.

Mason County won their one and only state championship when Phil Barner was about 11 years old. Please explain how the 2003 state title is cheapened and tarnished by Mr. Barner's move to Mason County this year. I'm not making the connection; I must be a little slow on the uptake on a late Friday afternoon.

 

What is "not legit" about Mr. Barner's presence?

LBBC--I don't believe I said ANYTHING about Brossart, their test scores, etc.; although I suspect they would rank higher than most in those catagories?? I simply asked if you had a list of the scores to back your point?? I thought saying Mason was unequivocally the top academic school in the 10th was a little bit disrespectful to the rest of the schools, and probably inaccurate as well-That' all!! If you can prove me wrong, being an educator and all; please feel free to do so!!

 

Regarding the bolded quote, I totally disagree; as the public give-aways have totally leveled the playing field, and kids that want to go to college can do so, and probably get a good portion payed for by some grant, scholarship, loan, etc. And for the record Brossart is not exactly a "wealthy" school where all the kids are "silver-spooned" into college!!

Mason's got a great hoops program, good academics, the best HS facility in the state (nothing tops the 10th region tourney), and will win the 10th this year!! They're a fine school with a great basketball tradition and it's not surprizing a kid or two moves in occasionally to become a part of that?? Happens all the time in the state (public & private)--See football!!
