Rules Help - PI

Featured Replies

Receiver running a slant - defender has his back to the ball (head not seeing the ball) - pass hits defender in the backg.

This type of play happened in the UK game. I assumed it was nothing but someone asked me if it would be PI due to the defender not having his head turned.

Didn't see it, wasn't there. In NCAA rules, Pass Interference requires contact.

Isn't faceguarding allowed in HS and college?

Faceguarding is a foul in HS (DPI), NCAA rules require contact for DPI.

Face gaurding in high school will get you a 15 yard penalty.

Thanks for the info. It is a PI under NFHS rule,7-5-10a. Hard to keep all the rules straight between Friday, Saturday and Sunday games. BTW Cshs81, is that pronounced backage?

Nice.

NFHS Rule 7-5-10a...It is forward pass interfenence if: Any player of A or B who is beyond the neutral zone interferes with an eligible opponent's opportunity to move toward, catch or bat the pass.

Neerfan, can we recruit you to wear a striped shirt? Chicks dig the zebras...

The defender is entitled to his position on the field, and as long as he is not impeding the receiver's ability to moved towards, catch or bat the pass, there is no foul.

It depends on how deep a slant you are talking about a 5-7 yard one that hits a defender will not be called. 20 yards down field it sure will.

7-5-10...It is forward-pass interference if:

a. Any player of A or B who is beyond the neutral zone interferes with an eligible opponent's opportunity to move toward, catch or bat the pass.

b. Any player hinders an opponent's vision without making an attempt to catch, intercept or bat the ball, even though no contact was made.

Not is HS, college........yes.

Not correct by rule. It doesn't matter if it's a 1 yd forward pass.

There is no "chuck" rule is HS football. The defender does not have 3-5 yds to chuck a receiever. Once that reciever establishes his route, he cannot be impeded.
