Fern Creek played without sophomore quarterback Bryan Hynes for the entire game and right tackle Ryan Benzick (6 feet 5, 325 pounds) for the first half ...

Things were so bad for the Tigers that Higgins made them do pushups on the sideline during a timeout with 9:20 left in the second quarter.

"If I could have run them around the football field, I would have done that," said Higgins, whose team will face Male next week to decide the 6-A, District Four title. "They had quit because we were down 28-7 and dropped their heads on the sideline. I refuse to let them do that."

I guess I'm not sure how doing pushups on the sidelines or running around the field during the game would get anyone more ready for the next series or stop them from having a quitter attitude. I'm not casting aspersions here, but I've always felt that a team's attitude generally (not always) reflects the attitude of their coach/coaching staff.

What happened to Fern Creek's starting QB?

Just my opinion but I thought it was the wrong move for their coach to do what he did with the push up scene. Those are the things that you do at practice. I am sure that it did not affect their level of play. The only thing that it could have done was drive them lower into the ground. The coach has to take the biggest hit on a loss like that. Now if he would have done the push ups with them I would have had a little better feeling about it. Bad move on the coaches part. I don't thing he knows much about how the mind of a teenage boy works aparently he has forgotten what it was like. I wish their team the best of luck the rest of the season.

Didn't someone post on the predictions thread that FC had a wonderful defensive coordinator who had been game planning for Ryle for several weeks?

Was he looking at the 07 films?

How could Fern Creek be rated 7th in the state with such a soft schedule?

Because the pollsters look only at Ws and Ls. Fern Creek will probably lose their next three games as well.

I applaud coach Higgins on not letting his team quit; he is coaching for the next game as well as the game of life. I have seen this technique used quite effectively in the past.

I do not know anything regarding the circumstances surrounding the suspension of two of Fern Creeks’ best players, but it shows that the coach and/or administration is trying to build a solid foundation for the future. It is unfortunate that these kids missed the game, but now is the time for them and the rest of the team to come together and get ready for the rest of the season.

Kudo's to Ryle for a big win. However, the score is not indicative of the FC team, and for FC to be blasted on here is not warranted. QB was suspended by school for 3 days 2 hours before gametime. Their best WR was moved to QB for the game and he has not taken a snap at QB in 3 weeks. Their two best lineman, not just Benzick, were benched for the first half by the coach for a locker room altercation between the two, too much testerone. Those two had practiced for the last two weeks on defense and had to be replaced as well. Punter drops two balls inside the 5, without being touched, just dropped the ball, and QB bad exchanges with RB, again with no contact, twice inside the 10, all leading to touchdowns. Ryle's coaches quickly figured out without Hynes, FC had no passing attack and put 8-9 guys in the box and stopped the run, forcing FC to try to pass. The backup QB, normally a WR, has only thrown 3 passes in his high school career, throws 4 or 5 interceptions, of which 4 resulted in touchdowns either on the runback or a subsequent play. Wheels fell off and no way to recoup. FC is a much better team than showed. FC coach Higgins then decides 2nd half to bench most starters and let other kids play. They will rebound and still be a good football team. I am a Trinity grad and Trinity dad, but I have also watched FC all year as well and they are much better than what was shown on the field Friday. Once the kids found out right before the game who all was not playing, they just seemed to give up before the kickoff.

Goodness gracious. Ryle must have played lights out.

Great scheduling move by Ryle should they end up in a 3-way tie. FC will bring lots of points.

Will it still bring Ryle many points if FC loses its remaining games (and there's a good chance they will)?

They have 6 wins now.
