Your point is pointless...

So is the point made that in order to be a national champion, you need to play a tough schedule.

I meant to say that in order to win you need to play a weaker schedule.

Mike is pretty clear in what he is saying. You need a few tests, but going overboard is a bad idea...

Its a bad idea if you don't have a great team. If your not great you will be exposed. He brung up a Michigan St team that had been depleted by players leaving early and were not that good. If your a great team it is not going to hurt you to play a tough schedule.

If that's the case he would have no statistical evidence showing what it does...

I have no idea what Ohio St's strength of schedule was last season, but they played @ UNC and @ Florida as well as Tennesee. They really tested themselves last seaon with a tough non-conference schedule and made it to the National Title game.

The 3 tests were very tough tests and that is what I am talking about. It is good to play against some very tough teams early to get a feeling what kind of team you will have.

Every team is going to play 8-10 OOC games. Everyone is saying that you max out on 3 or 4 big names on your OOC schedule. You seem to be agreeing with GT without even realizing it. He is not saying get a bunch of cupcakes, but about 3 big games is about right. I dont know if you know who you are with, but I'm with DeCoursey on this one.

I am arguing with the idea that the SOS should be somewhere around 70th in the nation. I don't buy that at all. And DeCoursey used UL's schedule as an example and I think it is still a little weak.

He's not talking overall SOS. Only the OOC portion...

What was the 3rd test besides UNC and UF? Loyola?

I counted Iowa State and UC has half of a test each because of BCS affiliation... :D

Didn't OSU play Tennessee last year?
