Who wins this game Boyle comin off a win, and Mercer comin off a tough lost

Boyle, 2 in a row!

Lets hope the Boyle and Mercer Co.fans have plenty of fingernails, cause this one going to be a nail-biter.;)

Should be the "litmus test" game for Mercer this year. I think we'll see the best Titan performance of the year.

If Boyle Co. beats the Titans this badly, things won't be very pretty in Titantown! Hope you're not right Admiralcrp, but I will say that if the Titans don't bring their 'A' game along with the an intense hunger for a win, it could be a long night.

Mercer will lose they are in there right class now and look who each team has played agianst.

First of all I have no idea what your first statement has to do with this game or anything else for that matter.

I think Mercer has played a pretty challenging schedule just as Boyle has. I tend to think Boyle's might have been a little more challenging but not by that much so I don't believe your statement holds a lot of water.

I'm rooting for a Boyle win but it won't be easy and many of Mercer's losses could have been just as easily victories.

Boyle Co. 28-26.

The Boyle-Mercer series has been pretty one sided for most of the years. I recall some pretty lopsided games in the early 70's and beyond (42-6 my Senior Year).

Their program had some success during Larry French's tenure (1979 to 1989 ?) and until Jaggars arrived French was the pinnacle of their history. I recall Mercer making it to the Class A semi-finals in '86 (?) and losing to eventual champ Heath. They had a good team in '88 that lost to Danville in a close playoff game.

Only 2 games really stood out to me in that old rivalry.

1987 Mercer beat Boyle 3-0 for the first time in 15 or more years. It was one of about 3 close losses the Rebels had in Ed Rall's last year as coach.

1989 Mercer returned a lot of talent from a District runner-up and playoff team the year before. Boyle was winless when the 2 played next to the end of the season. Though heavily favored, Mercer was upset something like 19-13 by the Rebels for Boyle's only win of John Griggs' initial campaign.

If you look at the Boyle-Harrodsburg rivalry it was one of the fiercest in Central Kentucky from about 1976 to 1984. During that time there were some memorable games that brought the rivalry to a boil:

1976 Boyle upset then #1 ranked Harrodsburg and Henry Parks 20-14 on a "hook and lateral" play in the closing seconds.

1977 Then #1 ranked Harrodsburg rode Gus Parks and Nicky Yeast to a 60-0 route over eventual District Champ Boyle. This one made the rivalry personal for Boyle.

1978 Boyle scored all their points in the second half to upset #2 ranked Harrodsburg 17-0.

1979 The Rebels beat Harrodsburg 6-0 in Overtime.

1983 The Pioneers rode the back of Donald Smith to upset favored Boyle 10-7.

1984 Despite a big effort Harrodsburg holds on to beat Boyle 13-7 behind All-State and future WKU back Donald Smith.

1986 Boyle defeated Harrodsburg 3-0 in a defensive gem with a Miller FG.

1987 Harrodsburg won a hard fought close one in Ed Rall's last season as Boyle skipper

There were some other good hookups in the 90's between the Johnson and Craig Yeast company and the Chuck Smith Rebels.

Last years initial game with the consolidated Mercer was a good one that the Titans won but it was a solid contest throughout. I look for the same as these two hook up again this Friday. I will go with my heart:

Boyle 27

Mercer 21
