Whitley Co. 35 North Laurel 21

I agree, we shouldn't have to "accept" mediocre officals.

Go get your license, buy your whistle, shirt, flags, shoes, etc, and try doing what they do on Friday nights. This was not a mediocre crew, they are an excellent crew, but one official on that crew was a substitute and did make at least one horrible call. I am a North supporter, but we have to accept that Whitley was just better than North on Friday.

I've accepted that. I wasn't talking about this crew...as far as I'm concerned the game wasn't called that bad at all. I've seen plenty of different crews in games though and many of them are all around bad officals. I was talking about many crews around SEKY.

Also, in no way was I saying that I could do any better of a job..but I didn't make it a job of mine. If you're going to do it...do it right.

He was only out one offensive series that went three and out.

He went down right before halftime and came back in afterwards.

Thanks. :thumb:

Actually, nearly everyone on this crew was of significant substance and experience. The problem is that given the past history of calls at Whitley, everyone starts assuming that it was a bad crew who really screwed a team over. Boucher, you know me pretty well, and let me I assure you that this was not the case in this game. The substitute official on this crew was the only real issue.

Gotcha. I wasn't addressing the game, I was adressing the statement regarding officiating (in gerneral) in SE KY.

We work a job for money. At the HS level, very few of these guys are doing it soley for the money. They have to love the game! I do agree that there are some bad officials, but it isn't just SEKY. They are everywhere at every level. I just hate to see a crew blamed for a few bad calls from one substitute official that did not decide the outcome of the game. Whitley was just better on Friday. I didn't see you blaming them, but a few on here certainly have.

I did not go to the game to witness any "bad calls', but I was just advised who the official in question was, and could see why there were problems. With some recent goings on with him, he definately has an axe to grind with NL. He also has a definate conflict of interest with NL football, I am suprised he would accept an assignment to officiate an NL football game.

I agree, there are some bad ones. But they aren't all like that!

Yeah and I agree with you. Calls are going to be questioned by someone no matter what the outcome is, if the sub-offical made a bad call then he needs to be more careful about his calls, but like you said it had no outcome on the games final score.

Whitley County had the better team on Friday night and looked WAY more prepared to play.

I agree 100%. I am not surprised he would accept this assignment at all. I don't think he should have accepted it, but it doesn't surprise me.

Of course not all, but most. And sometimes I don't think it is on purpose I just don't think they are that good. They spend way too much time watching the ballgame, than officating.

Regardless of the officiating, Whitley dominated the Jags from the get-go. Although the score was 14-13 at the half, North had basicly one drive and that was helped by a Whitley penalty (good call). Whitley was better defensively and offensivley. The best officials are the ones who you never notice during the course of the game. I thought that they called a very average game, which is not a bad thing. In the final analaysis I think that the kids settled the matter and not the officials.

Boucher,

The Wardrup kid is an excellant QB, one who has poise and composure and plays well. At times he made some bad decisions on throws, but some he was just throwing it down field to avoid the sack. He is the guys who needs to run the offense, the other kid did not appear to have much of an arm, as his two passes were way off the mark. He is a tough kid, as he took a HARD lick from Whitley and was shaken up played the next series then went out for one series, the half ended and he came back in the secon half, showing some toughness. He would be a much better QB (like a lot of them) if his recievers caught all the catchable balls that they had. North dropped a possible TD pass on the first play of the game. I still think Whitley wins even if it goes, because North had ZERO rushing offense and that allowed Whitley pin thier ears back and go after Wardrup with abandon. Whitley was able to contain Wardrup's scrambling thus taking away part of his game, which again hurt the Jags. It appears that they need a QB coach to polish him, much like Randy Sanders polished Woodson. (I am in noway saying Wardrup is a Woodson). Till North develops some type of identity for their offense they are going to struggle. The good part is that they do play hard and have loads of potential.

North hasn't had an offensive identity the past 3 seasons. They leaned on Blair for so many years, that when he graduated and Duncum left, they weren't really sure what direction to go. IMHO, they should have kept their run first mentality and use the weapons they have. They averaged just under 15 PPG in 2005, just over 14 PPG in 2006, and so far, are averaging 9.75 PPG. That puts way too much pressure on the defense. Go back to ironman football they played before. Put the best players on the field at every position, not just a few. You can sub for them and give them a blow when needed, but more numbers doesn't always mean lots more quality. The odds are better, but their depth this season is mostly very young. I remember seeing 8-9 guys playing both ways and all special teams until the past season or so.

"The other kid" as you call him, until Wardrup was injured Friday night has not taken a snap with the varsity Offense since another Wardrup "injury" for a few series early last season. The kid actually has a great arm and extremely good accuracy if you actually follow NL football you would know this, and he'd probably rather eat the ball than throw it down the field, up for grabs than to avoid the sack. But from what I hear he told Abbott months ago he wasn't interested in playing QB, heard he wanted to go out for receiver or something like that. I've been hounded by you guys on here for downing players, but I guess that only counts if it's me doing the hounding and not you. North was outplayed, out coached, and all together beat by a better team Friday night, I do agree with that.

Well, lets not get into another Wardrup arguement. I didn't agree with the comment about he only made mistakes when he was throwing the ball down field to avoid a sack, well a good QB doesn't throw it up for grabs just to avoid a sack....Turnover or loss of yards, which would you pick??

But, everyone has their own view on Wardrup and he is just a kid so, no need to argue over him on here.

I tell you what since you know so much about this NL team and football in general, why don't you go to coach abbott and offer him some advice, heck maybe even apply for a assistant coaching position. Instead of criticizing him, his coaching staff, and his players. This forum isn't so you can get on here anomously and rip people without giving up your identity, it for people who "care" about particular programs to discuss thier team and pickup info about whats going on in their area and state in high school sports. And as person who is very close to this program and its players "the other kid" doesn't have a great or isn't a better QB than wardrup, he is a great kid who has talent who is much better suited to play WR.
