They've been on the other side of this score numerous times!!! Union County, Lone Oak's first opponent, lost to Ohio County 21-20 tonight and Caldwell lost to Hopkins County Central 41-21 in their first game. I'm not saying Lone Oak's schedule is tough by any means but they could be playing weaker opponents too.

Lone Oak's schedule is weak ... period. I'm hoping they have a great year, but you have got to call a spade a spade.

I was a little disappointed in Lone Oak for leaving Robinson out there in the fourth quarter with the game already 49-3.

 

Then again, Caldwell's defense hadn't hit anybody all night, so I guess coach Haskins felt safe in letting Robinson throw his eighth TD pass of the night against Caldwell's reserves.

Robinson's last touchdown came with 10:11 left to go in the game so that's pretty early in the 4th and that was his last series.

 

Robinson's official stats were 32-41 for 407 yards and 8 touchdown passes. He also rushed 16 times for 90 yards equaling 497 yards total.

Lone Oak has played a tough schedule the past 3 seasons (Coach Haskins Era) & with the new reclassification their district is a little easier (no more Trigg Co or Ft. Campbell). Lone Oak will be tested when they travel on the road to play new district foes Calloway & Hopkins Co Central (both are improved from last year) & the Heath game (rivalry) is always a tough battle. This schedule somewhat resembles the 2001 Schedule when Lone Oak went 0-10 & was outscored for the year 518-19 & was shutout 8 times. My the times are changing. GO PURPLE FLASH !!!

Which leaves five games ... Union County, Caldwell County, Todd Central, Obion Central and Fulton City. They definitely could have upgraded a game or two there. Frankly, there is no reason for the Flash to be playing Todd Central.

Todd County? Wow.

Trust me, I only wish Lone Oak played a Paducah Tilghman or someone comparable instead of Todd County but such is not the case. Lone Oak respects all & fears nobody. Obion (Tn) Central has wore us out the past two years in scrimage games & Caldwell Co beat us last year 31-21.

Inexcusable to still have him throwing passes when the score is already 49-3 and the mercy rule is already in effect.

I know Caldwell Co. fans were a little bit disappointed about the lopsided loss and probably Lone Oak Purple Flash was pouring it on them, but I happened to glance at the Tiger's football program and noticed a few lopsided victories.

The difference in those Caldwell games and Friday night's game is that Caldwell's JV and freshmen continued to score while RUNNING THE FOOTBALL UP THE MIDDLE on those teams.

 

Had the Flash grinded out the game and won 104-3 I wouldn't have a complaint.

 

Instead, the classy coach Jack Haskins had his starting QB in the game in the fourth quarter of a blowout THROWING the dadgum ball.

 

If I was a Lone Oak fan, I'd be upset about that. There's always next year to think about. I would have spent some of the second half letting a future QB get a little experience. Plus, I'd hate to get my star player injured after the outcome had already been decided. I see no advantage whatsoever in Robinson being in the game on Lone Oak's last two offensive series.

I agree, I look back on any of Mayfield's past lopsided victories and its only because our freshman or JV squad was just that good. It doesn't matter if the defense wasn't putting any pressure on your QB all night, the fact that he was running and throwing the ball all night was subjecting him to potential injury. The biggest problem with it is all those kids on the sidelines that need the experience, if Haskins keeps it up, he'll have problems in those key games where those reserves make the difference, you can bet Calloway is taking notes.

Im in a wait-and-see mode with Lone Oak......their two opponents have been Union Co. and Caldwell Co........a slight breeze would blow those defenses over. So its safe to say that when Lone Oak does face a solid defense, they most certainly wont put up 50 points, maybe half that. and until they beat a decent team, i will not put them any higher than 9th or 10th in the WKY big school poll. Right now, i don't think they could hang with a single school ranked in that poll...IMO....but games aren't played on paper and i have been wrong before..........

Keep in mind that Lone Oak is 4A & with the exception of Warren East, all the other teams are 5A or 6A. Lone Oak also has the least number of male students out of all the 4A schools (Hopkins Central the most) & most of the other teams in the poll have a football history & tradition unlike Lone Oak. I think Lone Oak could score on most of those teams but the trouble would be on the defensive side.

I like Lone Oak's offense a lot. A very accurate passer and good quick receivers. The offensive line is not bad, but I think they may struggle running the ball in short yardage situations against bigger schools.

 

However, I don't see anybody in their district that's going to shut down their offense.

 

The jury's still out on Lone Oak's defense, although they've done what they needed to so far against Union and Caldwell.

 

Having seen Lone Oak and Hopkins Central, and a little film of Calloway, I think Lone Oak is the best of that bunch.
