Who's the best team in Pulaski County?

Recommended Posts

Jumper 1, you are a little biased. Of course, so am I. The best team in this County is by far Southwestern. Even with Cole, SHS needs to show me that they are a complete team. A great receiver is not going to win the games by himself. SWHS is a well balanced team with alot of individual very good athletes. Give us a little credit please. We did beat both the other schools last year, PC twice. We all lost seniors and what it boils down to who can reload the best. I think we have the best Junior class that SWHS has ever had and alot of those Kids have really stepped it up. The proof is in the pudding...:thumb:

I wouldn't have expected you to say anything different....:thumb:

Sure Cole is a great receiver and will carry the load for the Jumpers, but Somerset is blessed with other players also. Gossett, Hall, Hughes, Shoemaker, Coomer, Megargel, Cowan......etc. Lets let things play out a few weeks and then we can debate this much more.

All 3 Pulaski teams strap on the gear for the annual epic battle of Pulaski County teams Aug. 24th at the Ray Correll Bowl @ Somerset. With the addition of powerhouse Rockcastle County rounding out the foursome. This event is expected to draw fans from miles around. You can bet that there will be many, many scouts there from all the other schools that do not begin their season until the 25th(Mercer, Danville, Lincoln, ect.). The Ray Correll always has a packed house for these games and this year will be no exception I foresee the stands full of fans and the Track lined with many, many more. All three of our Pulaski County teams do have great support, as does the Rock coming from the next County over. See ya' on the field. Good luck to all...:thumb:

Danville and Mercer will be there, but Lincoln opens up on Friday night as well against Bell County.

I'm hoping and praying for great weather!!! If so I think Kemo's right Clark Field will be packed with fans.
... The biggest potential I forsee would be the rain. It could possibly take away the glitter of it all. Hypothetically, the rain could turn Clark Field into a mud bath with the newly reconditioned field. A wet and muddy field could change the game plan for a running team and really slow down the game for fleet-footed receivers and challenge the game for a passing attack. Man I certainly am not wishing for rain. It would change everyone's "A game". Of course rain and a muddy field will certainly help the lessor of the teams. A good "mudder" team would certainly have the advantage. How is the new turf looking?...

The Rockets can bring the fans and they better:eek: I didn't realize that the other three teams were all from Pulaski County!!!!!!! As far as the best team in Pulaski we will have to see, I would honestly say that if SW beats Rockcastle they get the nod.

Everyone was hit hard by graduation but I agree with Kemo, its all about how you reload.. Somerset brings back one of their best recieving corps they have had in awhile with Cole, Coomer, Megargel and others. Hughes who carried the backfield load last year is back. The line although was basically cleared out by graduation will not be hurt. IMO they bring back the most complete group... I know SW lost A LOT! Jones, Smart, Hampton, Walters, Gibson... I mean the list goes on and on but I know they don't have trouble finding kids to fill spots.. so I guess the Ray Correll Bowl will be an evaluation period for all teams.

I hope that my thread doesn't get things going in the wrong direction. I believe that all three teams have something special about them. Pulaski's youth and experience from their younger kids will pay dividends in the future, maybe the near future. Southwestern has built a strong program where they reload every year. Somerset has a well balanced team, not just a single receiver and playmaker.

If I was to guess right now who would be best, I'd give a very slight nod to Somerset with an equal footing to Southwestern. Pulaski County is right on their heels however and this year above others it appears that all three teams are closely balanced to each other.

... I certainly hope that there is a great show of support for Rockcastle County. I would expect a great team with such tradition would have great support. It is such a short distance from there to here. Coach Larkey will have his team ready and we know it. I truly expect a grand game. We know that we were highly scouted by Rock last week and we will return the act this week at North Laurel. All the scouting in the world cannot help when our teams leave it all on the field. I expect the game between Rockcastle and SWHS to be a real knockdown-dragout type battle. Of course you do realize that you are venturing into Pulaski County and PC and SHS will be overwhelming supporting our effort against the Rockets. Beat the bush and drum up support to come over here. Expectations are high here even with Rock being the favorite. Lets hope that win or lose our Kids make a good showing and that with the physical contact which will be "smash mouth" football at its best will not result in any injurys to anyone. Looking forward to seeing you all. Good luck...:thumb:
