Raceland/Lawrence County/Fleming County Scrimmage

I wish the Rams could schedule the Dawgs & BC, b/c there could be a new area conference scheduled w/ home & home series if all schools would agree.

school: teams on their schedule this year

Ashland: Russell, Boyd, Greenup, Raceland. (Need to schedule Lawrence)

I know that scheduling is extremely tough for all schools, but do you think all the schools would be interested in a conference and the missing 3 games is possible to arrange in the near future?

Imagine the cash every game in this conference could generate for each school on a weekly basis?

Nice work Dawgdays. That would be a great conference. It may happen with the new 6 class format only being in the first year alot of schools still had contracts from last season to fulfill i.e. LC vs. Coal Grove.

As for the scrimmage, sounds like Goldsmith has brought back his defense mentality. Something that LC hasn't had since his departure. Don't get me wrong they had good defense's but not like the early 90's when LC would be at the top of Defensive categories in the state.

If they can keep improving on Defense the Offense will come into their own and not be pressured to win games.

Great idea. I agree it would generate excitement and be money in the bank for all involved. It may take awhile to get organized though as some schools may already have their schedules set for a couple of years.

It would be great to see the Raceland/Lawrence Co. battles again. Both have great Tradition and a great fan base.

What about adding Fairview or East to the mix?

So how does everyone think Lawrence County will do in their scrimmage next saturday vs Montgomery County? Has anyone seen Montgomery County play, if so how do they look?

Lawrence needs to work on their running game and the WR's need to look the ball in and make sure that they make the catch first of all.

It is to my understanding that neither school wants anything to do with the other 5 (or 6) schools in football on a yearly basis. (particularly East)

This is not a smack towards either school, team or players but the interest to schedule the other 5 (or 6) teams and compete would be to great of an obstacle.

If I misunderstood you on making it an 8 team conference with these two more schools, then scheduling would be too unrealistic to get a champion. Not everyone would be able to play the other 7 teams. A good example is some years with the Big 10 (11) having two conference champs that didn't play each other during the season.

Would this 6 team conference idea be worthy of its own thread?

They used to have a conference similar to this. But it was the OKAC (Ohio Kentucky Athletic Conference). Ironton and Portsmouth were in instead of Raceland and Lawrence Co..

^ I remember that one as well, we may be just a couple of the few on here that would remember that.

^^^ I remember that conference as well. I remember reading the Ashland Daily on Saturday mornings (actually saturday afternoons then, lol) about the great games between those schools.

The OKAC was a tough conference. It was a real shame when it had to fold.

I would think that this conference was probably one of the toughest anywhere. All teams were very good and alot of players to chose from especially when Steel workers were living in these school districts.

I remember that conference too, but it is to my understanding the reason why this conference had to fold is because of scheduling conflicts (not able to play everyone) due to kentucky's district alignments years ago.

Another reason why it will never work again is that Ironton is in their new conference nowadays.

That is correct.
