--Kentucky's fans are the most "out there" of any fanbase I've come across. Every year before the season there are several "This is the year for a NC!!!" threads on their board. Every single time they get a decent recruit they run to all the other school's boards that were recruiting the kid and claim that they have now rightfully ascended to their place at the top of the college basketball world.....blah, blah, blah.

 

I love the posts from the Carolina message boards. They're almost as ridiculous as some on here in season! But my question is this: when does Carolina not expect to compete for a championship? When do they not brag about their recruits?

 

The national titles are basically equivalent; the wins are slightly in favor of UK; the series is in favor of Carolina. If they are the top of the basketball world, Kentucky has to be right there with them.

Since Carolina has recently won a title and UK hasn't won one since '98, it would be tough to say that at this point they are right there with Carolina. It's been quite a while for an outright SEC crown at UK. By UK standards, UK is in down years. How could they possibly be right there with them?

The University of North Carolina men's basketball team will play at least 13 opponents this year that participated in the 2007 NCAA Tournament, including Davidson in the Tar Heels' regular-season opener on Wednesday, November 14, at Charlotte Bobcats Arena.

 

Carolina also travels to national runnerup Ohio State on November 28 in a rematch of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge that UNC won last year, 98-89, in the Smith Center.

 

The Tar Heels will play Old Dominion in the Findlay Toyota Las Vegas Invitational on Friday, November 23, and either BYU or Louisville in Las Vegas the next evening. After Ohio State on the 29th, Carolina also travels to Kentucky on December 1 and Penn in the historic Palestra in Philadelphia, Pa., on December 4.

Well, considering Pikeville and Seattle are exhibition games and Davidson is regular season for North Carolina, they are two different types of games. North Carolina plays two exhibition games (Shaw and Lenoir-Rhyne) as well.

 

Oh, and by the way, Davidson may be a top-30 team in the country next season.

I like UNC going to a hot-tempered place like the Palestra. That will be a great experience for some of their players prior to playing on the road in conference. More "big name" schools would be wise to make trips like that.

If you knew ANYTHING about the Palestra you would know that the reason they stated that is because The Palestra has hosted more regular season or post-season NCAA men's basketball games, more visiting teams, and more NCAA tournaments than any other arena in the country.... So The Palestra won't be hot-tempered? The Penn fans won't be going nuts trying to intimidate North Carolina? I know plenty about the Palestra (I'm insulted you would insinuate otherwise) and I know its hosted more tournament games than any arena. Sure the tradition and history will draw North Carolina to the arena, but its also a tough place to play, which will help the Heels when they go to Clemson, Maryland, Duke, etc.
