2007/2008 Deming

What does Deming need to do to improve in 2007/2008? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

I've said this all summer they need to work on having a team oriented offense rather then run a one man offense, that to me seems to hurt them everytime they do this.

This incoming group has the most promise in the future of the program(until Deming closes and Robertson County High School opens). And beefing up the schedule some may help in the future as well.

I agree they must learn to win and lose as a TEAM. Which in recent years hasn't been the case. If they don't learn this it will be a long season.

Deming will struggle as much as Bracken, but they do have the King twins. One has to wonder if they will get recognized as much if Deming struggles throughout their high school career as opposed to going to Harrison or Mason County.

We'll have to see but I'd say no they won't get the exposure

^A lot of the exposure issue will have to begin with the kids there self, then it's up to the coaching staff, and then if they can play a competative schedule would help them when they become Seniors. I believe it'll take sometime for them to gell as team, and they may do better then those who give them credit for. Remember the Twins will be Freshman this year, and they had some varsity exposure last year as 8th graders. I remember Travis Massey started his freshman year and he scored between 18 and 20 pts. per game. I don't expect miracles from them just yet anyways.

I talked to Coach Johnson the other day. He said that his Black Devils will be very young this year. He mentioned that they are probably going to start something like two sophomores and three freshman. They probably will struggle early in the season, but in a weaker district like the 38th(Pendleton, Harrison, Nicholas, Deming) they have a good chance of making the regional tournament for the 3rd consecutive year.

What happened to the juniors and seniors? Last year they had 4 would be juniors on the varsity roster(Mitchell, Shalch, Workman and Grause) and 2 would be seniors(White and Curtis) and they didn't dress any would be sophomores. Grause, Mitchell, White and Curtis all started at one point in the season. So my question is was there a fallout between Coach Johnson and his upperclassmen?

He mentioned something about having "trouble" with some of the upperclassmen this summer.

Haven't gotten a chance to speak with Coach Johnson this summer so I had no clue about his upperclassmen problems but we'll have to see come game time.

I dont think that Coach Johnson would be tipping his hand this early. Maybe it was three freshman two seniors or maybe three juniors two freshman etc. sometimes imformation is skewed as it is passed from one to another. There were only two freshman in the program last year, and if im not mistaken they did not dress varsity

I have overheard something to that effect also.

Not to sure what the problems are but I hope the team can get it together.

What ever the "Trouble" maybe I hope it all turns out well. I think I know whats going on but I can't post on here.

I was thinkin along that line, but I thought maybe Luke and Kyle King at guards, Jarrod White at Forward, Garth Grause at Center, Caleb Curtis at Point.

One kid I think should be given a chance to play is Austin Stitt, he's had some good games on the JV team and should have a chance for some PT. He's been on the Jv team for the last 2 seasons and he should be able to contribute.

Why hasn't he been able to play you may ask? To make room for some players that just wanted to dress out. Therefore there was no room for him on the squad. Nothing against them but if Stitt can contribute put him on the team with Mitchell, Caldwell, Grause, Luke and Kyle King, and there's a Collins kid that's pretty good too.
