1A 2007 Playoff Scenario

Recommended Posts

Remember folks, these threads are just for fun for us to compare what would happen this year if every team had everyone back in the current playoff format.

I will have to give jimmyref the credit for the idea to do this. I did however do mine just a tad different....I'm using a winning percentage to determine the seeding and playoff results.

So here is what Class 1A would end up looking like:

(Teams in italics will, of course, not be included in the playoff scenario but I'm including them for records purposes. ALSO, for in an instance a tie occurs, I went to see if those teams played each other and broke it that way OR if they didn't play each other, I used a points scored/points allowed ratio to break the tie.)

1. Mayfield 11-3

2. Fulton County 6-5

3. Crittenden County 4-7

2. Holy Cross (Lou.) 7-4

District 3

1. Beechwood 9-3

2. Dayton 6-5

3. Ludlow 4-6

4. Bellevue 3-7

Looks good to me. I really dont think alot of people from down state realize how good of a team Raceland had this past season. They easily moved the ball up and down the field against NewCath in the first 2 quarters of the Regional Championship and were ahead 21-6 until the NewCath QB rushed for a TD with less than 2 minutes left in the half. A 21-13 half time lead on the state champs is pretty impressive. I honestly think Raceland was the second best team in Class A last year.

Thanks for all the kind words from Ram Land BUT remember this thread is not saying anything about any teams with this year's talent on them....it's a hypathetical look at what the teams would have done with everyone back based on winning percentage from last year.

We all know that in all six class scenarios that jimmyref and myself tabulated, there are going to be some matchups that will be huge blowouts but according to the winning percentage factor alone, then it could go either way. You have got to remember that nobody can predict the outcome of a game just by looking at winning percentage alone...on the field talent and strength of schedule play a huge role in a team's winning percentage but more importantly, it molds them into performing better later on in the season. Just look at Mayfield for example, although they may not win state every year, they're not scared to take a few losses if mean their team is going to get better by playing the likes of Marshall County, Daviess County, Paducah Tilghman, Graves County and other 3A & 4A schools (of course this was under the old format).

With that being said, I wish every team nothing but success in the 2007 season. I hope the season goes smoothly for every player, coach, fan, cheerleader, band member, and other school personnel. This is one of those times during the year that we can all look back on and say that we totally miss during our high school days...the start of high school football practice then the season, not too many things come better than this.

Exactly. I think some people missed the "with last year's players" comment, but, it is still fun to look at the stats and play "what if". Everyone is 0-0 right now so we can speculate, for fun, all we want. And why shouldn't we that is part of the fun.
