I see Montgomery and Clark as a tossup for the #2 spot.

Montgomery should be at number 2. 22-8 last season, won the Berea Invitational tournament, and return a lot more than what GRC does.

They were also destroyed everytime they played Brossart, GRC, or Mason at full strength. I agree that they should be at number two with what they have returning, yet I don't use their record last year as a way of supporting it. I have Brossart that high simply because of coaching. It reminds me of the '06 year when they had nothing but JV players returning, yet they still came within four points of MC in the Regional Semis. CCHS definitely has the potential to be the second best team in the region, but they must start living up to their potential. GRC will be there again. Harrison COULD be the second best team in the region depending on if Talbott plays or not. As far as St. Pat's, I'll believe it when I see it. No disrespect, but I just feel Brossart will win the All "A" again because of coaching... I feel there is about three or four different tiers of teams this year... In no particular order...

Interesting that you have Montgomery Co that high. I can see them top 5 but #2?? Also CCHS #5 and they are looking for a new coach.

I appreciate your list...I am really having trouble with mine...

I feel Montgomery can do very well this year because, outside of Miller and Stephens, all the dominant big men in the 10th are gone With one of the best big men in the 10th, along with a good supporting cast, I feel Montgomery can be quite successful...

Stephens has never been a dominant big man. He's had flashes, but he hasn't consistently dominated games; especially against the top teams in the 10th. I've heard that he has improved greatly since the end of last season; if he has, then Montgomery can make a run. He needs to cut down on the fouls, improve his footwork; and make more free throws, as he should get lots of chances (I get dizzy watching the sidespin on those charity tosses).

That being said, most of last year's big men have moved on (what about Dumphord from Paris?). Jones from Clark County, Cooper and Mutsch (although Mutsch really wasn't a center; played away from the basket a lot) from Brossart, Belcher from Pendleton come to mind. This could be the year that a talented big man could really dominate in the 10th.

I loved watching Scott play last year in the 10th tournament, great fans and players that were fun to watch. I think the starters were all seniors, much like Brossart. So who knows how those teams will develop as the year goes on.

We know what Clark Co lost, I don't know what the other schools are bringing back. I know a few people joke about Montgomery Co playing an "A" school schedule, so if that's the case again this year, we might know how good they are til later in the year.

You will have one or two teams come out of nowhere and have really good season, I just don't know who those will be.

So I will just take a cop out answer and say it's a DRAW after the Royals.

Does anyone know what the Indians' schedule looks like? Last year they played Deming, Menifee (twice), Paris, Bracken, Bath and Magoffin early in the season; had a gaudy record; then showed poorly against some of the best teams in the 10th (33-60 vs. BB, etc.). To their credit, their schedule in the second half was a little more like what you'd expect from a school with 1300 or 1400 students.

Will they keep the same philosophy of scheduling mostly "A" schools early? Or will they showcase their team and their big man a little more in '07-'08?

Mutsch barely even played last year. Niemeyer was one of the best post players in the region last year. I agree Stephens has never really been a dominant post player, yet wouldn't you agree, other than Miller, there is no other post players even close to have proven themselves?

I remember Montomery having a really great record when they played the Royals. While it's not fair barometer for any team after they play Mason Co, I thought the Indians looked just awful. Then someone made a joke about why they aren't in the A school tournament.

I understand you want to protect your kids, build up some confidence before you go against the big guns in the region. But you are better off playing a tougher schedule and that will prepare you for tournament time.

I'm not an Ashland fan, but I applaud them every year because they play a brutal schedule in December to get those kids ready for tournament play.
