I saw players in the dugout shaking their heads at certain calls that Maynard made during the game. Players must be confident in their coach, and I didn't see that out of the BC players.

 

But when the coach does call on them in a certain situation, the player most be able to preform and Boyd's players did not do this last night. For example with bases loaded and big hitter at the plate it is his responisiblity to knock in some of those runs which did not happen last night. That is on the player's shoulders.

I've heard it from alot of BC fans and players as well. It seemed as though Logan was one step ahead of them all night. The BC players seem to not have any idea about situational hitting. This bunch of kids was hard to judge, so I am gonna keep my comments to myself...I can see both sides and definetly understand what you are saying too.

 

The real test now for this Coaching Staff will be how they handle the next couple of years, with a shortage of talent and talent that they have to produce.

 

My only major complaint is the same complaint as all other people involved in the youth programs, is that this Staff has no concern to what is going on in the youth programs and there is some great talent there that they should be working with now, but doesnt happen. And to be honest at this point some of the young teams enjoy doing their own thing and not being involved.

Yes, I know the smart thing to do is get the runner to second, but Blanton had came just feet away from blasting one out in his first at-bat, so I believe they should have had him swinging away...

 

Oh well, I guess we'll have to wait until next year...

Disappointing end, something that should not be overlooked is how ALL of the seniors played in this game. Boyd only had 6 hits for the game and committed 0 errors...... Going down the lineup.

 

Casey Branham- 2-4 with a double.

Brad Blanton -1 hit,BB

Odis Sturgill- good defense, came up in bunt situations and came thru.

Greg Bowling- 1 hit,RBI, pitched good enough to win.

Tyler Perkins - pitched good in both games he played, tough luck loss.

Justin Moore-did not play in this game but, pitched great in 1st round game.

 

There has been much discussion on coaching in this game the only thing that was VERY evident was Greenup was not going to let any of THESE guys beat them and they were pitched around, intenally walked and pitched to the next guy and such. These players never had a chance to hit when it really mattered. ( you must tip your hat to Greenups coaches for that).

 

In the 2nd inning Boyd had the bases loaded and 2 outs with Casey Branham on deck, Greenup went right after the batter and struck him out on 4 pitches. Next inning Branham leads off the inning with a double. This was typical of how Boyds nite went thats when other players have to step up.

 

There has been much discussion on Boyds future talent level. These players mentioned above have been their underclass men for the last 2 teams that went to Applebees. Seniors can lead but they cannot bat in every spot in the lineup.

 

Congrats to Greenup, If you finish the job you are in for an unforgettable experience you will never forget.

 

To the Boyd Co. seniors you got 2 tastes of something some kids will never get the chance to be a part of and you will remember the rest of your lives.

Wiler leads off a inning with a single, Barker at the plate who can bunt and might beat one out but at least move runner up for hitters #2-3-4, we try to fake bunt and steal and get thrown out.

There is a difference in bunting your 3 or 4 batter like Boyd tried to do where as Greenup bunted there 6-7-8 batter's. I watched a lot of Boyd games this year and i'm not sure I ever remember watching Blanton bunt, but in watching many Greenup games, I believe his name is Rister bunted almost everytime he got up to bat because that was his only way to get on (with all do respect to him). He is the one that got the suicide squeeze down.

I just want to say that I really hate this loss for Boyd. All those guys and their families and the coaching staff have been close friends of mine and my family for many years now. I had full intentions of going to this game and supporting the Lions but things just didn't work out like I hoped. Like Bobbyearl said these guys have gotten to experience things that not very many kids ever get the chance to experience once. You are all class acts and great kids. I just wish you had the opportunity to go back to the big show one more time, but for about all of you seniors it's far from being over. Good luck and best wishes in your careers at the next levels.

 

Also I know that some of you Boyd Co. fans may be disapointed with the way the season ended, but dont be too tough on the coaching staff. They, in my opinion are still some of the best in the business. There is not a single one of them that I dont admire and respect . They have all coached both of my two sons in the past and I have full confidence in every one of them. Best of luck next year.

I did not see this game and I know that Boyd has/had a very good team this season but imo not enough Boyd fans are giving credit to GCHS. I am not trying to start anything and I am sure the Boyd could had played better but instead of blaming coaches and "didn't do this or that" I think that more credit should be given to the Muskies.
