What College Basketball program fell off the most in recent years? UK with Tubby? UNC with Matt D.? IU with Mike Davis? UCLA with Steve Lavin? Arkansas with Stan Heath?

I still think UK was in the best position because Tubby did win a title but it is obvious the program did gradually decline... Thoughts?

If judging this stuff on a scale of 1-10:

What UK was doing in the mid to late 90s, I would rate them about 11. "The decline of UK basketball" is a lot less severe than a lot make it appear.

The question you pose is a really broad one. Daugherty at UNC was not good at all. Davis at IU was not that great, but it was not as if IU was cutting down the nets in previous years; Knight had started the "decline", so to speak.

For a team in the 90s that was rather solid, but now not, hmm... how about Michigan?

In college sports, it is easy to rise and fall quickly.

I go with IU.... UK never missed the dance & averaged 26+ wins a year.. UNC really only fell completely off for 1 or 2 years. Other than that, they were solid.. UCLA was on a downward spiral to a degree before Lavin and he still had some pretty good years in there.. Arkansas was spiralling before Heath got there, he didn't help it, but, didn't cause it either...

IU was also falling a bit under Knight but he was still winning alot of games and still getting some good recruits in there...Davis brought it down to a level that even Knight, with all his antics and arrogance, didn't do...

You're mistaken again. Davis got great recruits, really good ones, we were always Top 25-30. He just couldn't coach AT ALL!

I understand this is regarding basketball programs and I voted for UNC, but I really feel Miami, Fla football is in the most decline of any major college program.

Didn't say he didn't recruit well. I said he brought it down to a level that even Knight, with all his antics and arragance, didn't do...

You definitely implied it when saying Knight was bringing in good recruits....then Davis comes in and runs it down.

It doesn't matter.

Top 25-30 is what you want? At an elite (and I use that term loosely...) program like IU, you shouldn't settle for classes like that. Those classes at a school like that make you lose you job. Top 5-10 classes win you titles. Tubby usually got top 30 classes but thats not good enough for UK. Maybe that is the difference between UK and IU. UK won't settle for less than top 10 and IU is content to getting mediocre classes....

Wow:creepy: :creepy: !!!! I never said they were acceptable. That's why the clown is now destroying UAB instead of IU. Simply saying he at least did bring in some decent players. Didn't have an ounce of knwledge as to what to do with them once they arrived, but he get em there.

Use it lightly all you want.

You have every right to be wrong.

Never implied such...Was simply stating Knight had his faults but the program was still doing OKAY under his direction and some of the things he was still doing okay with...Davis ran it down because he was a terrible coach and probably was in over his head at a program like IU...

They have been elite but aren't right now and haven't been for 10+ years with the exception of the title game they played in. UK isn't really elite now either. They both should be back soon though...

Good Call on Michigan. I totally forgot about them!

I used to not think so, but I disagree.

There are some school that a small run of mediocre seasons will still remain Elite.

UCLA, UK, IU, Duke, UNC, Maryland, Syracuse, UConn are Elite programs it would take way more than 4 or 5 bad years for that to change.

Florida is about there. If Donovan stays they will be there.
