You are likely right. However, the Tourney committee doesn't issue invitations to the Tournament. Schools apply to play. The committee then chooses from the schools who have made appliacation. Generally at least two schools from each region are selected. However, if the committee feels that there are not two quality schools who have applied, they can take more from another region which is apparantly what happened this year.

 

Corbin did not apply this year, I'm not sure about Shelby Valley.

 

I'm not sure if Corbin will ever play in the Wymt again.

Corbin ran into some very questionable officiating in the WYMT in years past. I know at one time the coaching staff at Corbin vowed never to return to the WYMT Mountain Classic.

Too bad, they would be fun to watch on TV.

I'm sure the WYMT Classic will overcome the absence of Corbin. Seems to be no shortage of teams willing to participate.

I'm not too sure as to why Corbin wouldn't want to play in it but I don't think it's feasable. There may or may not be things from the past that caused the Hounds to not want to play in it but their schedule is another thing I would say. Corbin hosts the Cumberland Falls Invitational the week following Christmas. The week before Christmas, they usually go down to Florida and play in a tournament. 3 tournaments before the break seems like it would be too much for a team. That's just my guess.

I would think it is the travel distance and having to play on the road that far during the week. Hazard is a long trip to make from Corbin on a Monday or Tuesday during the week of school. I would think if the WYMT people wanted a true Mountian Classic they would rotate the site within the 13th, 14th and 15th regions each year and perhaps get officals from none of those regions to call the games. Then no one has a big arguement. I am sure.....Clay, Bell, Knox,South etc from the 13th would host on their years and then the same from the 14th and 15th on their years......but that is just one person's opinion.

i agree with you Bubba, the host site should be rotated throughout the mountain regions each season.

Good post, I was thinking the same thing and almost posted something similar to what you are saying, but I wasnt sure they were going to Florida this year. If they are in a tournament in Florida and their own tournament a 3rd tournament would IMO be too much tournament stress and could effect how much they would have left for the District and Regional Tournaments. Some programs however I am sure would argue that the more tournament play they participate in the better prepared for a late season tournament run. Opinions vary on this subject I would guess
