How funny! I've been saying for years that we need to get rid of politics as a "career"! Career politicians have no more idea what the "people" want than the man in the moon!

What I'm waiting for is for anyone in favor of withdrawal to come up with a plan to deal with the aftermat. With the benefit of hindsight, I'm leaning toward never have gone in to begin with, but now that we are there and the situation exists, will not a complete withdrawal create the same sort of problem as when the Russians pulled out of Afghanistan leaving it to the Taliban? Right or wrong we created this problem and we will have to deal with now or in the future.

Yes, he will be a lame duck for these last 2 years. He is like what Hoover was during the depression, to hard headed to compromise and push aside his values for the good of the people. Hoover did not want to have the Feds to give money to the people, Bush does not want to pull soldiers out of Iraq.

If Iraq is the primary battle ground in the so-called war on terror, it's because we made it so. I'm sure there will be lots of people to respond 'better there than here,' but that's cold comfort to the Iraqi civilians we choose to place in the way.

Please excuse me if I don't weep for Iraqi civilians. I haven't yet adopted the world view where I place their lives at the same importance as American lives.:confused: I guess you can call me a homer.

What is the mission? If the mission is: To establish a successful democracy centralized around a strong central government which will be a Pro-U.S. ally in the Middle East

 

THEN: I don't think that mission will be accomplished.

 

On the other hand, if we redefine the mission, it is POSSIBLE some "victory" could be achieved. There is little indication the current adminstration wishes to redifine the mission however.
