If Jesus Were in Charge of Health Care . . .

Featured Replies

No he's saying Jesus wouldn't deny anyone healthcare, what this debate is really about is healthcare insurance. BIG difference between the two...

..and that is the point I was trying to make. ;)

Actually my point is, if we can enlarge the group that has access to health insurance, at a minimum cost, why would we not? Would Jesus actually say, "you know, I think access to health care, through an insurance system, is good but I just can't see extending it to people who are living in sin."

I agree with some posts above - if the legislature votes to deny UK and UL the ability to extend health benefits to domestic partners b/c of sin, then should it not be denied to all who are greedy, slovenly, non-christians . . .

Jesus did not put his faith in government or businesses.

Jesus did not always solve worldly problems. He went to Nazareth, they had no faith in Him and he performed no miracles there.

Ace if a couple are married but yet non Christian they still are "Married' and recieve benefits.

If another couple live together, but are not "Married" they are not covered in Health benefits.

Sin has nothing to do with it. I'm Married and a Christian but I sin everyday, but I have benefits with my wife.

What is a "partner?" Pardner

According to the people at UK - and this is a loose paraphrase b/c I can't remember all of the definition -

Anyone is the responsible for the health and wellbeing of someone living in their house, they can receive health benefits from the university under the domestic partner provision.

LBBC, I guess you can make the stretch and say that UK is a part of the government, whey you talk about Jesus not relying on the government, but it is essentially a business and that government is trying to prevent it from offering insurance benefits b/c they are living in "sin".

And as I indicated, Jesus had no faith in businesses or governments in solving the world's problems.

Jesus himself told the disciples that the world will hate you because of me. While we should strive to show the love of Jesus Christ to the world, in return, we have been told by no less than Jesus himself that the world will not return that love. So we should not expect the world to embrace positions that Scripture indicates that we must.

For a worldly business, their point is the bottom line. If offering health coverage to homosexual partners helps their bottom line, that is why they will do it.

Let's not hold these universities or businesses to this high moral position that they are more accepting than the church might be. The ONLY reason why they are offering this is a business reason. THAT IS IT!

They have said that this allows them to entice more professors to their campus and increases the quality of their staff. They are doing it to be more competitive from a business standpoint. Not for making a social statement.

But they are making a social statement and they ARE more accepting than the church.

But they are making a social statement and they ARE more accepting than the church.

They don't care about that and it is not driving their decision. It is TOTALLY economically driven. If it cost them more to offer the benefits, they wouldn't be doing it.

And I disagree that they are more accepting than the church. I have NEVER seen anyone turned away at a church door. And I have seen people turned away at colleges/universities. For money purposes, for grade purposes, for discipline purposes.

You have also seen them turned away at a Kentucky private school for being Gay.

When the message coming from the pulpit is that their life is an abomination they are not accepted in the church. Having someone sit in the pulpit on Sunday does not mean they are accepted.

Why do you think so many hospitals were started by Christian (primarily Catholic) groups?
