I'd pick HHS. They were a seasoned state championship team and had probably more depth.
It's OK to think that HHS might win, but to say they had more depth than Male is absurd. Male was loaded at the time.

Male pretty much has always had tremendous talent as starters and players who will become tremendous starters. Will become, not present! Lots of two-way plaers in great shape. I think the "Rocks" have figured out the answer to this question by using depth and discipline. You can't say that the players who became good and contributed later in great quantities were as good at the time because they weren't. Bush was good as a frosh, legendary as a jr. and sr.

Actually we figured out the weakness of Bobby's teams. His crazy defense. While discipline and depth makes a difference if you have the right passing attack you can pick them apart.

Actually Bush was a pretty big contributor in that game as I recall.

In what game?

In what game?

Sorry I was referring to the Trinity-Male game that year where Male spanked us 34-14 and we were down 34-0 at halftime.

I believe Trinity was the only common opponent of both teams that year.

Yeah, but you guys were one year away from the savior.

That doesn't take away from how dominant we were against everyone else we played that year except HHS and H.

We still mounted a comeback against HHS in Coach Beatty's first game as Trinity head coach and our first game in his offense. While HHS had likely pulled their starters, Male had done the same against us in the second half.

But it was also early in the year for the birds too. And they were playing a tradition rich state power in you guys. Even in the worst of recent times, you guys haven't been a look past team. Male was also more accustomed to playing you guys and had the momentum in the 'ville at the time. I think if you factor in the diff. in the QB position talentwise, the HHS team was better. Then you can add on the fact that they were a senior-laden defending back-to-back stae champonship team.

Actually I think was the first time we had played Male in 5 years. And they had never played us under Beatty's system.

Maybe not in 5yrs., but always watching with a close eye. A very likely finals opponent right across town, I would set up cameras all over the place on shelbyville. Heck, might do it anyways! jk! That's like Lexington used to be when it wasn't all one district. BS owned Lex. for much of the early 90's and was in a seperated dis. from Pld, but PLD knew it could easily meet BS and/or HClay in the playoffs, so they were also scouted.
