Blog site paidContent.org is reporting that Yahoo! is working on a deal to buy Rivals.com.

Officials at Brentwood-based Rivals and Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Yahoo! (NASDAQ: YHOO) could not be reached for comment, but the report says the deal could be worth as much as $100 million.

In April last year, Rivals.com signed a two-year content distribution deal with Yahoo! Sports, which followed a deal with AOL in December of 2005. Through its deal with Yahoo!, Rivals provides content items each day to the Yahoo! Sports Web portal, focusing on college sports and recruiting news.

Can't figure out if I like this move or not. Rivals has nothing but good things covering the whole recruiting scene. However, I never have been too sold on Yahoo sports as being a legitimate sports website. If Rivals can keep the same webmasters, editors, etc, it could work out. But if its not broke don't fix it, and I am afraid of whats going to come of a tremendous scouting website if Yahoo gets their hands on it.

Rivals and Yahoo are already deeply connected. Go look at any NCAA team page and see where the links come from...

I've observed that, but my biggest concern is the possible laziness of the Yahoo writers. It seems all Yahoo sports articles are of the headline variety only. Its like they don't go the extra mile to dig up the dirt. So what I was alluding to was maybe not getting enough in-depth, updated info on recruiting status', if Yahoo were to use their writers they already have on staff. Basically saying I'm afraid they won't go the extra mile to get the coverage or stories on these high school kids, and only focus on what is only to be headline articles.

From my early understanding if they buy Rivals nothing will change on an operational level. All of the team sites will stay the same...

That would work for me then. So basically it is just from an ownership, dollar standpoint, rather than a coverage stadpoint. :thumb:

That's good because Rival's rankings, profiles, predictions, bio's and stories are pretty accurate. Not too mention they do a great job covering hundreds of players across the nation.I was just fearing everything mentioned above would be taking a hit, but I guess not, so this bolds well from a business stanpoint, and quality standpoint as well.

Why do you think I've worked very hard to get deeply connected to the Rivals network... :D
