Baseball, football and weather

It's obvious, football players are tougher.

I saw some football players crying today after they got hit by a pitch...

I played in a Men's softball tournament today. First game was at 9:00 am. 24 degrees outside, try and tell me that isnt dedication.

It's tough to play baseball in cold weather, as some have stated above. But, by no means does that make these boys look like they can't take it. I was at Montgomery County watching a game. The wind was blowing up to 12 MPH and the snow was coming down hard. They toughed it out for a couple innings. And they wanted to keep playing. Wanting to wait out the band of snow to go by. Yea, they had under armor, and "turtlenecks" on. Try holding on to a 15 degree bat for a long count or looking up in the driving snow for a white baseball that's been popped up 20 feet into the air. A quarterback may make 4-5 throws during a set of downs. A pitcher may get lucky and have to throw 3 pitches during an inning, but that doesn't happen every game. Most have to make 10-12. Last time I checked, I didn't see any baseball players huddled around a turbo gas heater during a cold game. And I, sure, haven't heard of any baseball players wearing his Mom's pantyhose to stay warm during the game. They're too tough for that. :thumb:

You know what they say....If you can't hit the fastball, can't field the hot grounder or track a fly ball and throw a rope 300 feet to the plate, you either play the piano or football. LOL

Does the KHSAA not have a rule that you can't play/practice outside when it is under 40 degrees ? I heard that is why the high school games were being cancelled .

I dont think so because we played a game a couple days ago and it had to be around 30 degrees with the wind chill knocking that number down to around 20.

One reason for so many games getting called that I haven't seen posted yet, is the number of games a coach schedules, knowing full well with rain and cold some will get canceled. When you schedule 40 or so games, and from what I understand you can only play 30, why play in such poor weather conditions, that can not only hurt the players, but isn't much fun for the fans as well.
