March 31, 200719 yr I saw a news show today and several times this week people saying that Europe is a dying continent, because by 2050 it will be pretty much an Islamic continent. Why do people use the word dying when talking about this? Does this scare anyone else?
March 31, 200719 yr I don't follow. Do they mean it is 'dying' because it is being overrun with Islam, Muslims, or foreigners?
March 31, 200719 yr When I saw the thread title, I thought it had to do with the negative population growth in Europe.
March 31, 200719 yr Author I don't follow. Do they mean it is 'dying' because it is being overrun with Islam, Muslims, or foreigners? Yes. They pretty much said in the future look for France and others to turn into Islamic republics. That keeping Nukes from Iran was usless because they are going to get the technology through democracy. In other words they would go to the polls, put Muslims in power and in turn all of the Muslim world would have the weapons of the countries of Europe.

In other words they would go to the polls, put Muslims in power and in turn all of the Muslim world would have the weapons of the countries of Europe. I don't know about all of that. France couldn't be more of a nationalist, isolationist, anti-foreigner country. They undoubtedly have an ever increasing number of Muslim immigrants, but they are repressed by hard lining nationalist. Muslims in France live in ghetto slums. In fact, a rather incompetent Jacques Chirac won the last election essentially because he was running against a racist who sounded much more like a neo-nazi than a politician. If Europe is "dying," this is why.
March 31, 200719 yr I think the word "graying" would be a better term. Europeans don't have any many children as their American and Arab counterparts. I would say the median age in Europe is higher than anywhere else in the world. Europe is "dying" because its citizens are progressively getting older.
March 31, 200719 yr How did Islam get to be so "backwards"? During the Dark Ages of Europe, the Caliphate was advancing the sciences like never before. They were leaders of learning throughout the world. Now it seems to have become a very dark, death embracing religion.

All it takes is the right or wrong people in a position of power plus the onset of certain economic truths. Durng the era of the Ottoman Empire (pre-Lepanto) it was the richest empire in the world. Money in the right hands changes many things. Of course the Turks, not the Arabs were in charge at the time as well. Their interpretation of Islam clearly was different.

There isn't one general consesus on interpretation of Islamic law. There is such a wide spectrum of beliefs that fall under "Islam". It's almost impossible to define what an Islamic belief is.

I will trust you on that one. I know very little of Islam, save what I read of in my books.
