Ohio's Division 1 Finals: All GCL South (Moeller vs. St. X)

Featured Replies

Cincinnati Moeller beat Lakewood St. Edward 67-60 tonight in a boys' Division I state semifinal basketball game, sending Moeller to the title game Saturday night against rival Greater Catholic League South team Cincinnati St. Xavier.

Earlier today St. Xavier beat Canton GlenOak 45-34 in the DI state semis.

The Bombers held 7-2 Kosta Koufos to 13 points and the Ohio State-bound center averages 26.

A third member of the GCL South, LaSalle, handed Ballard one of their two losses of the season, 74 - 67.

How can two teams from the same league face off in the state finals?

Doesn't Ohio divides up the state in an X pattern that splits Cincy down the middle for basketball and baseball. I think a few years ago the Ohio DI Baseball final had two teams from Cincy playing as well.

CovCath had Cin St. X beaten, and let them off the hook, with less than 50 seconds to go in the game and up by 5 I believe. This was at the Bluegrass/Buckeye Charity Classic at NKU....46/44.....

You are correct.....I was there and CovCath had them beat. If you can believe it I was actually pulling for the Park Hills Colonels.....:D

^^^ Missing two seniors, and before Bovard was running the point. It seems so long ago....

I believe the top seed has the option of going into another region/sectional. Moeller did this about three years ago and it kinda backfired and they lost to Brookhaven, Moeller wanted to stay away from Hamilton that year I believe.
