March 19, 200719 yr A story which is both fun and true: My housemate is engaged to an A&M Galvaston student. She was in town for Spring Break, so of course we talked a little about the game before I went down Saturday. She would not stop talking about the Yell Leaders, so I was pretty interested to see what the deal was. I think that the tradition as a whole is pretty neat, and I know we're talking about something that's been going on since roughly the Jurrasic Period, but MAN do they need to change that one move. I came home, and I was talking to my housemate and his fiance. I gave my opinion about the Yell Leaders, and she was a little offended. I performed 'that one move' to illustrate the point that I was making, and my housemate bust out laughing over it. She, of course, whirled around and gave him the Stare of Death. But I think my point was made.
March 19, 200719 yr Texas A&M, of every college I've visited (and that is over 100), has by far the most tradition. It is amazing. I'm sure much of it stems from the "Corps" mentality, but they get those kids (and alums) to buy in hook, line, and sinker. No walking on the grass. No hats in buildings. The Elephant Walk. Yell practice. Different haircuts for which year of school you're in (The Corps). Kissing your girl at football games. Amazing. Not to mention, back in the day, the Traditional 12th man. No schollys, just regular joes wiling to go down and bust up wedges on Saturdays. College Station is a cool place, there is no question about that.

March 19, 200719 yr I was at both games at Rupp yesterday and the Texas A&M cheer/ritual that they did was very cool and impressive. Sounds like Texas A&M showed some good spirt this weekend. I wish I could have seen it.

The Elephant Walk -- all of the underclassmen line this weaving side-walk from Building A to Building B and the graduating seniors walk between them. Not just athletes...all of the graduating seniors. A&M is a big school. Never been there during one, but it sounds awesome. Different haircut -- for the men in the Corps, you can tell their grade in school by their hair. Suffice it to say, the longer you are there the more you have. Frosh is shaved, Soph is high and tight...etc. Kissing the girl -- at football games, when the Aggies score the Corpsmen kiss their dates. The tradition goes back to "when the Aggies score on the field, the Aggies score in the stands..." Another, everyone stands during the entire game. Goes back to when A&M had all walk-ons on the 12th man, and the tradition was you should be standing and ready to go in if needed. Just steeped in tradition.
March 19, 200719 yr There was a particular motion of the Yell Leaders that was... interesting. At least one Xavier fan was convinced that they shouldn't show it on television. Is that motion on the video in this thread?
