Why isn't E. Queen Being Honored

Featured Replies

Oh, and by the way, I actually forgot the most important part of my post. I also believe that Miss Queen should be honored for her outstanding accomplishments sometime during the regional tournament. I have truly enjoyed watching her play over the past few years. She is not only a truly gifted athlete, but also a fine young lady.

The request to recognize Laura was also made to Ashland, a 64th distrct school, and Ashland also graciously consented.

The announcement should have been made after that game, but I think the plaque should be given on the finals night with the rest of the awards.

What would really be cool is if she was honored after she finished cutting down the nets.:ylsuper:

There is no rule. Laura Terry was presented with a ball commemorating her 2,000th point during the 64th District tournament. She had actually gone over 2,000 points prior to the end of the regular season and this was, of course, a specific team related accomplishment.

In regard to Laura, Rose Hill made the request to Boyd County, the host school, and Boyd County graciously consented. I'm sure that they didn't bother to seek the okay of the other district schools as may have occurred in the Queen request.

Queen's accomplishments are the setting of new standards for girls in both points and rebounding for the whole region for the entire history of the region. I would think that the region schools and fans would find this to be of major significance for the region as a whole.

You are speaking of a completely different tournament.......the Regional Tournament is more closely governed than are district tournaments. While I cannot say there is a specific rule with any greater authority than you can say there is no rule, I would suggest there are other factors to consider. One example would be the fact that the KHSAA has a corporate sponsor responsible for all trophies and awards that are to be given during the tournament. Please consider the fact that there could be a certain protocol to follow when such a presentation as you describe is requested. I tend to believe if this was a well thought out and PLANNED presentation, the KHSAA would have had no problem with it but you cant simply wait until the tournament begins and say, "Hey, we want to present a plaque tonight."

If this were a Ashland, Russell or Rowan Co. girl would it have happen? Another question could be, "Is it because RHCS is a private Christian school that the presentation did not occur?" I hope not! This was an outstanding accomplishment and merits the recognitinon no matter where she attends school.

Oh yeah.......I forgot about the conspiracy against Rose Hill.

You know about it too?

OK, let me make sure I'm reading this correctly before commenting on this post. Scooter, are you saying that Fairview and Ashland would have turned down the request, if asked, for Terry to be honored during the 64th District Tournament for scoring her 2000 point? If this is the case, you are assuming a lot - especially if the assumption is meant to reflect poorly on the other district schools.

Secondly, for the Queen request, are you saying that all the participating

schools in the 16th Region Tournament were asked if Queen could be honored and they all said no

Scooter, I've got to believe that I am misreading your comment. I don't think that even you would make such widespread accusations based solely on unsubstantiated assumptions.

Please Scooter, say it ain't so............

Intentional Foul, my friend, it ain't so. I never intended any such interpretation. I have complete confidence that both Fairview and Ashland would have been most willing for Laura to receive the ball during the district.

My point was that Boyd County, as tournament host, made the decision and moved on. The leadership of the Fairview and Ashland "congregations", I'm sure, would have, if consulted, added a hardy "amen". No doubt about that.

Some may wonder why the ball was presented at the district tournament. Easy answer. Laura's father works away from home. She naturally wanted him there when she got her ball. This was the first, and could have been the last, opportunity. There was no clandestine intent. Just a nice story of cooperation.

As for Queen, I am not certain of what caused the denial. I have heard a lot but I wasn't there.

No leadership within the 16th. You saw it last year at the girls state tourney. All the other regions were represented by a board member except the 16th.

The 16th region does not have a board member to my knowledge.

The 16th schools (three in particular) voted for a person from the 15th over a respected candidate from the 16th.

Two of the schools All A schools who went with the 15th candidate.

Scooterbob, my friend, I am glad it ain't so. I am still confused as to why you even felt the need to bring up the "other district" schools - but in the overall mood of goodwill and sportsmanship I am willing to concede this point. I most definitely would not want to be guilty of unwarranted assumptions.

You are right I think. Last year the rep was from Ashland though. Whoever the guy from the 15th is should step up. You may know more about the politics of the decision, I just think somebody should step up.

Each region will now be represented.

I think an area superintendent will be our rep.

The supts. all bonded together to make this happen.

We will see if that idea was a good one in the years to come.

This is getting silly. But, what the heck. It is Friday afternoon, the secretary is off on an errand, everyone else is gone, and there are no more appointments for a couple of hours. So, why not respond?

Intentional Foul, I mentioned the other schools only to offer information that Boyd County graciously handled the request without feeling the need for a "group conference". No slight at Ashland and no slight at Fairview. In fact, I am rather confused as to why one was even implied. My post certainly didn't indicate any.

Stripedshirt, we are talking about presenting a 17 year old girl with a plaque for becoming the leading scorer and rebounder in the region. The accomplishment covers the entire history of the region. It covers all those fine Hop Brown teams. It covers all those past "greats" who have ever, ever played in this region. It even includes all those great Ashland state champions of early in the last century.

However, it is not a decision to invade Canada or to hang Tubby Smith. It is what it is. Period. Therefore, all of the complications and imagined bureaucratic red tape you present in your post #20 are, at best, ridiculous. It is just a plaque to a young girl. No lives will be lost. No one will die of hunger. It won't, in and of itself, cause the "Second Coming".

So, why not do the right thing for a change and honor the young lady. It really won't cause anyone else any pain.

Why so much opposition?
