February 27, 200719 yr What is it that people like about Tubby? What has he done to make people support him? I know the reasons that I dislike him as a coach, but why should I support him? I'm just wondering because I've thought and thought but cannot think of a single reason of why he should be kept here a UK!:fire:
February 27, 200719 yr Tubby has always came across as a very classy individual who is an excellent basketball coach. Rare you get both in the same package. I like him representing the university I choose to root for.
February 27, 200719 yr The fact that you've thought and thought and can't come up with anything suggest nobody will be able to come with a reason you would accept. He has maintained a level of success that not many across the country can match. He runs a diciplined respectable program. Some people even like teams that concentrate on defense. He won a national championship and has been to 3 elite eights. All the while a vocal group has voiced their displeasure with him since the day he was hired.
February 27, 200719 yr Class and integrity. Tough to bundle into one coach. He also understands to the fullest extent the integrity of UK Basketball.

On the bolded, there was a stat about a month back that only Duke and Illinois has won as many games over the past 5-6 years as UK. and to add to that from a post in another thread..... In the past five NCAA Tournaments, Duke has advanced past the round of 16 one time. Kentucky has done it twice. For all the static about Tubby and 10-loss seasons, Indiana -- which currently stands 18-9 -- has lost 10 games in a season every year but one (2000) since 1994. Kansas has lost in the first round of the past two NCAA tournaments. With all the griping about Kentucky's Final Four drought, Tubby has never done that. North Carolina went 8-20 in 2002. As sour as the past two UK seasons have been, the Cats have never come close to having a losing year. In five prior years at Louisville, Rick Pitino has twice played in the NIT. Tubby has never missed the Big Dance (though, to keep that going, UK better beat Georgia on Wednesday night). Moral: The environment for college basketball is far less favorable for the old-line powers being consistently elite than it was in the past.

Yet while maintaing his level of success he has managed to bring the top college basketball program in the nation down to an average team. About discipline, I recall Tubby having more off-court issues than Rick Pitino ever had. hen on the fact that he won a national championship just makes me laugh because anyone in America could've coached that team to a championship. And yes you are right about being displeased with him since the day he was hired, because UK basketball used to be something to be proud of, something that the people of Kentucky had to hang their hat on. Now we are, just as I said above, we are average. Tubby may be a classy individual, and I am in no way judging him as a person, I am just saying that he is not the right person to be coaching the University of Kentucky, never was and never will be.:thumb:

February 27, 200719 yr Author This team was already prepared. They were an experienced team that had played in two previous championship games, Tubby did nothing to coach this team, Tubby should just box the ring from the championship and send it down to the ville.

Since anyone could had one it with this team maybe he should send it to you?:sssh:
February 27, 200719 yr Author He could if he wanted, then I'll take it to Rick when he's coaching a team in the NCAA tournament.
February 27, 200719 yr Anyone who can say "Tubby did nothing to coach this team"...the "98 team knows VERY little about the game of basketball. Go back and watch the regional finals against dUKe where Tubby out coached Coach K and made him look like a first year coach, the last 12 minutes of that game were priceless. Everyone else who has posted have given great reasons, Tubby is a class-act. The University of Kentucky is a much better place w/Tubby Smith at the helm!
February 27, 200719 yr Author Outcoached Coach K? Duke was playing freshman for the most part. Like I said UK had experience that no other team in the nation could compare to that year.
