February 27, 200719 yr Yet while maintaing his level of success he has managed to bring the top college basketball program in the nation down to an average team. About discipline, I recall Tubby having more off-court issues than Rick Pitino ever had. hen on the fact that he won a national championship just makes me laugh because anyone in America could've coached that team to a championship. And yes you are right about being displeased with him since the day he was hired, because UK basketball used to be something to be proud of, something that the people of Kentucky had to hang their hat on. Now we are, just as I said above, we are average. Tubby may be a classy individual, and I am in no way judging him as a person, I am just saying that he is not the right person to be coaching the University of Kentucky, never was and never will be.:thumb: Reliable word on campus at the time was that Pitino was able to strongarm, or enthusiastically encourage a silence of his players transgressions. I know of 3 DUI'S that never hit the news. Tubby didn't do that, for all we know.
February 27, 200719 yr To correct this post as well, in the 98 game Duke played 4 freshman in that game, with only 3 getting considerable time. Those three were Elton Brand 21mins - 4pts, Shane Battier 24mins - 11pts, and William Avery 20mins - 4pts. Yes UK was more experienced and did mostly played Juniors and Seniors but so what. BTW, UK was down 10 at half time. I'm glad to see that someone is able to actually use some facts during these discussions. To add to that thought, Duke was lead in mins and pts by upperclassman. Sr. Roshown McLeod 30 mins - 19 pts., Sr. Steve Wojciechowski 32 mins - 10 pts., Jr. Trajan Langdon 37 mins - 18pts, So. Chris Carrawell 27 mins - 12 pts. Lets not act as if this Duke teams best players were inexperienced.
February 27, 200719 yr People also seem to forget that Duke was absolutely out of timeouts left with plenty of time left, and Tubby refused to call one and risk stopping the run... Good coaching move preserving his, while Coach K could do nothing but watch from the sidelines as his team fell apart and do nothing to be able to try to right them.
