2007 Mercer County

Featured Replies

I wasn't meaning that Mercer Co. was afraid. Listen I know without a doubt that JCHS contacted Mercer Co. and offered to travel in 07. Mercer Co. still had no interest in playing JCHS. All I was saying is why not play an up and coming team like JCHS? What is the deal?

The only reason I could see is that these two could meet in the region final if they both win their playoff games. Still not enough for me. If they played it would be an awesome friday night. Mercer Co. is the one that stands to lose because JCHS fans travel as well as any fans around the state. This game would bring in a huge gate I can assure that.

If JCHS has week 2 open they can play. Mercer has week 2 open. I don't believe you can play someone unless they have the same week open.

i guess they'll be playing up where they should have been last year. No reason they should have been in AA last year IMO

I heard they don't put a lot of emphasis in their off season weight program. If they expect to compete in 5A, they better step up to the plate. It won't be handed to them in that class. JMO!

I can also assure you that the Strength Coach knows what hes doing. A few years ago before Jaggers got there, the weight program was horrible. No attendence required, kids werent shown the proper techniques and only 2-3 kids were dedicated to lifting on the whole team. Todd Davis wasnt in charge of the program back then, but if he was, things would have been much different.

yes, Mercer's wt program is very solid. I was told some of the power cleans they are putting up and I was very impressed. Mercer also models a lot of what they do after Boyle County's program. Emphasis on athletic power rather than brute strength.

I also remember hearing about a few of the clean numbers and was impressed also. Do you remember any of the kids numbers exactly?

I think that if Mercer plans on competing in 5-A this year, they should probable think about another merger first. You already know that the KHSAA will back that move.

Mercer will be lucky to win 5 of their 10 games this year with the playing field being level.

Would you like to bet your Jeep?

i'll back jeepman on that one..... if mercer would have played in 3A or 4A last year they dont have a state title.... thats a fact like it or not.... and as far as a merger, i'd talk to danville about one

I live in Boyle county and I can assure you Mercer would have done just fine in 3A last season. I enjoyed the boyle vs. mercer game last year and look forward to them playing annually. I congratulate the Titans and understand that they went through a lot in order to fuse the two teams and play as one. Jealousy will not change a thing. I think it is great that 5 A will have another quality program and for one do not anticipate nor desire to see them become a bottom feeder.

You can bet your vehicle, too.

I can tell that you and jeepman are out of cheese to go along with that wine. Would y'all like some Monterey(sp?) Jack or Colby this time?!

I attended the Mercer/Russell game last year (sure was cold). I would say that first Mercer needs to learn to pass and defend the pass to compete in 5A. If not they won't advance too far in the playoffs. They also had some pretty good speed (little guys but fast). They need to replace that speed and add more IMO to compete in 5A. JMO, of course.

I think Mercer will add more of a passing attack next season. they too realize it will be difficult to be one dimensional at the 5A level. However, I disagree that they would have had difficulty defending the pass last seasonl. Ask OCath. They will however need to replace most if not all the secondary, if I am not mistaken. I would not judge Mercer by the state championship game. The weather hindered both teams. Ask those that played them down the stretch. OCath, Larue etc. if they thought Mercer could play at another level. Would they win 4A probably not. would they be a competitive team... I think so. IMO Questions remain though will coach Jaggers be at mercer next season?

They could not have beaten CovCath, Bowling Green, LexCath or even Highlands last year IMO

how about some mozzarella or provolone?

sportskid I tend to agree with you however there have been posts bashing Mercer and how horrible they will do in 5A. My point wasn't that they would win but rather that they would have and should be a competitive team at any level. Why people wont admit this is shear jealousy IMO. I for one would like to see some more competitive teams at all levels. For so long only a few have dominated that some new blood is refreshing, much like when Boyle stepped up and went from the bottom to the top. Boyle is still a strong competitive team that others must bring their A game to play. Mercer will be a fun and competitive something I think is needed in this state. Instead of putting teams down we need to build up football across this state. Again IMO

Sorry fella's. I stand by what I said. Mercer will be lucky to win five games next year. You can say what you want about how good they are going to be. 5-A is a big change from last year. I will keep my Jeep thank you. Pretty nice Huh.
