Crying?

Pride, you're lost. I've admitted that we lost, but would beat Somerset at home or on a neutral floor. This win was big for the BriarJumpers, I understand.

Lets look at records for the last five years bt Somerset and McCreary then talk about that.

The past sure isn't going to get you anywhere.

I dont keep count...

Not many people could remember... Only kidding.

It's been several years since they've been... was 2002 the last season? They're due for another trip back. It's been since before '99 since they've won a game at regions. Good luck to the BriarJumpers.

I am going to do some "scouting" on this team:

#22 seems to get lazy whenever his shots aren't falling or he is not getting looks.

#51? (outside shooter) seems big enough to drive, and whenever his shots weren't falling in the first half, he should have drove to the basket.

It sounds like McCreary has a heck of a time dealing with pressure and taking care of the ball. In most of the threads where they've lost that seems to be a common theme that turnovers did them in and they lost the game more than the other team winning. Perhaps they just aren't a good ballhandling team and pressure exposes that flaw. I've said more than once that with Somerset's depth they should be trying to force tempo and tire out teams--just like what happened Friday night. They played their passive 2/3 zone and only scored 10 points in the first half. When they pressed McCreary they ran them out of the gym in the 2nd half--outscoring them by 21.

A lot was attributed to trying to beat Somerset back down the floor, and then just getting sloppy. Bartley, a senior still shakey from his knee surgery, turned the ball over a lot, and keeping him in the game was a bad decision on Coach Jones' part, in my opinion. He did knock down a three in a critical run to close the lead in the fourth, but his turnovers overshadowed that by a lot. The actual pressure of bringing the ball back up the floor wasn't what hurt the Raiders, it was losing the ball while driving, or just simply throwing it where it shouldn't be and it getting picked off. McCreary should have called timeout way before Somerset took the lead, and they didn't until the game was several possesions out of reach and I think that just fueled the Jumper momentum and lost the game for them. Probably one of the bad coaching games of Jones.

Most games, McCreary can run with anyone, as shown by their scoring average (1st and 2nd in the region throughout the year.) McCreary should have had the ball in Watts' hands during Somerset's run, and sometimes it's like they forget about him.

I read over these fairly quickly and noticed that nothing was mentioned about Josh Phillips. The Raider second leading scorer and a huge part of their offense was not at the game. This would have made a huge difference in the game. Yes to all I did read the posts closely enough to see that Somerset won the game.

On a lighter note has anyone ever noticed the guy who stands on the side and acts out the games? At one point he was down doing some sort of sliding drill. I give him the sixth man of 12th region!

If the past isnt going to get me anywhere why are you asking me about the past and how many times Somerset has made it to the Regional tourny? hmm..

And second, who cares that MC has a much better record, there seeding in the district is what matters and i believe Somerset is the #2 seed, what is McCreary Centrals seed again? If MC and SHS played 10 times, by what i saw the other night, SHS would be the team to win 7 times out of 10..

But i'm glad your raiders are comfortable at 11 games over .500 and a double digit loss to a .500 team..;)

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but is this post about Somerset? because if so they dont have a #51.. Somersets outside shooters are 3 Molen, 23 Price, and 34 Wallen..

Sorry, I don't keep up with Somerset too often. The kid was a bigger kid with black hair.

I've mentioned it several times, but most of the people think I am making excuses. You can't get anything rational to people like that.

I don't think its that people aren't rational. Its the way you present your comments on the game. You said that McCreary led by double digits most of the game then backtracked and said they had an 11 point lead in the 2nd quarter, you said that McCreary outplayed Somerset in every aspect of the game until the 4th quarter yet they were outrebounded, had fewer assists, more turnovers and a lower shooting percentage. Then you made such a point of Somerset's 12-12 record and poor performance in the past few years in the post season yet were quick to mention that the past was not relevant when someone asked to compare Somerset's and McCreary's records during that time. You acted like it wasn't a big deal that Lincoln had 2 starters out (you said 1 but it was 2 of their main players) when McCreary one the talked about how big a deal it was that McCreary had one out Friday. These kind of comments cause people to pick at your account of the games and the individual teams comparative strengths. The thing is Friday was two games in one. In the first half Somerset came out cold, McCreary played their game and had a comfortable lead. In the 2nd half Somerset hit some shots, got in their press and exploited McCreary's Achilles Heel: They do not take care of the ball or handle pressure defense well. I haven't seen nearly as many of their games as you but in your threads on their losses that seems to be a common theme and they sure didn't look comfortable getting pressed Friday. As for McCreary winning 7 out of 10 games between the 2 schools I think that might be a bit of a reach. While Somerset has very much underachieved this season they are still a deep team with a lot of good athletes, if they play a full court game they are as dangerous as anyone in the region save Lincoln Co. The Jumpers do have a 10-5 region record, only Boyle and Lincoln have more wins in region. McCreary is 8-5 in the region, they have a chance to make some noise but I wouldn't necessarily put their chances any better than 3-5 other teams--Somerset included.

Good choices ...

1. I said that McCreary led by double digits most of the time, which was almost the entire first half and led all the way until a minute or so into the 4th.

2. I brought up the past because Pride felt that is was needed to say that Somerset has beaten McCreary more often then not in the past. Why can't I bring up the past if someone else does, whether it was in this post or not? It's not like I am purposely trying to make Somerset sound like a bad team.

3. You, as well as almost every other person (UnderPar, KY Sports, etc) before and after the McCreary and Lincoln game made it a big deal that they were down players. When I try to say that McCreary is down players, I am making "excuses." Can we keep some consistency here?

4. Excuses for the first half was because Somerset came out cold? Swiger, a starter, averages over two three-point shots made a game. He had 0! He missed four in the first half and only Watts and Bartley had the threes.

5. McCreary wins when they press, and they didn't press. They get sloppy with the ball, and it's not from a full-court press or anything of the sort. They just start playing a passive offensive to use the clock and they turn it over. I don't think there was more than 2 steals by Somerset that came from their press, until Bartley kept turning it over in the final couple of minutes.

Oh, and by the way Pride, I would like to see your assist, turnover, rebounding, and shooting percentage stats. Somerset couldn't hit a shot in the first half and their big man turned it over more than I can count to. Whenever you feel obligated to show your stats, I'll get the stats from the McCreary side... we can compare. ;)

Oh really? well Somerset set shot 13-16 in the second half compared to McCreary Centrals 4 or 5 baskets.. McCreary's field goal % was bad but it would have been worse its just they couldnt get enough shots off cause they kept turning it over.. Scott Moody alone had 5 steals out of the press in the second half for Somerset, and not sure about the rebounding edge but if you watched the game it was obvious that Somerset dominated the boards..

I will admit that MC was up by 11 points.......... for about 10 seconds!!! NOT ALMOST THE ENTIRE FIRST HALF

1. You didn't say McCreary led most of the game. You said that McCreary led by double digits for most of the game. They led 12-6 after 1 quarter, 19-10 after 2. Unless they scored all 7 of their 2nd quarter points to begin the 2nd there was no opportunity for them to lead by double digits most of the quarter let alone the game. Somerset immediately cut the lead to 21-19 to open the 3rd quarter so they couldn't have led by double digits most, if any of the 3rd quarter. You didn't say McCreary led for most of the game, which they did although the lead was under 10 almost the entire time. You said that they led by double figures almost the entire game-which would make one believe that they dominated for three quarters. In reality they won the 1st quarter by 6, the 2nd quarter by 3, lost the 3rd quarter by 3 and the 4th quarter by 9. Would you care to retract the double digit lead most of the game comment now?:sssh:

2. Its not that you can't bring up the past if you want. However, if you're going to do that you shouldn't tell someone that the past doesn't matter, agreed. :sssh:

3. I made no comments regarding McCreary's win over Lincoln at all, let alone saying it was only due to players being out. Here's the link to that results thread. http://www.bluegrasspreps.com/showthread.php?t=113726 :sssh:

4. That was not an excuse, it was a fact. Somerset scored 10 points in the first half, I would call that cold. That prevented them from getting in their press and making it a full court game. In the 2nd half when they came out, hit some shots, and got in their press they outscored McCreary by 21. There were no excuses being made. Somerset wasn't hitting in the first half, couldn't press and McCreary was able to hold onto the ball. In the 2nd half they hit some early shots, got in their press and McCreary wilted. Whether the press created the turnovers, made them uncomfortable, or they ran out of gas the Raiders fell apart and were outscored by 21 including a 16-0 run. It wasn't a coincidence that it happened when Somerset pressed.

5. Maybe so but that sounds like a coaching issue. I think it was evident from what happened in the 2nd half that Coach Jones (wisely) didn't think that getting Somerset into a full court game was in the Raiders advantage. Like I said whether the turnovers made directly against the press, were made because McCreary was trying to beat the Jumpers down the floor (like you said earlier) or simply because the Raider got tired due to depth and/or conditioning issues it would seem that their weakness was exposed. Like I said before I think McCreary is in the middle of a group of 3-5 teams chasing Lincoln, Boyle and West that could get hot and win the region. They just aren't any better or worse than the others.
