Boyd County 🦁 (4-1) | The Lions fell prey to one of EKY's apex predators, starving for a win, as Johnson Central dealt Boyd its first loss.

Greenup County 🇯🇲 (4-2) | The Musketeers fought valiantly against another one of EKY's heavies before falling to Ashland at home.

📖 | Boyd County leads the all-time series 32-20. The Lions smoked Greenup County 49-7 in Cannonsburg last year as the Musketeers turned the ball over six times, including three pick-sixes by Boyd.

I like the Musketeers here. They outplayed Russell in every phase but the scoreboard and went toe-to-toe with Ashland before getting burned in the second half by Trevonte Taylor. Greenup 's got a good club. Boyd is very solid, too, but I'm taking the Musketeers at home.

I think the Musketeers get the win 35-21. Also this game is Thursday 10/1 at 8pm on mytowntv with the pregame show at 6:45.

Looking forward to this one. Two quality football teams will meet in what should be an excellent Thursday night matchup.

This game features two programs that have made significant progress under two young, outstanding head coaches - Travis Jones at Greenup County and Evan Ferguson at Boyd County. Both have done an excellent job building their respective programs, and their enthusiasm has helped energize their communities. You can see that reflected in the fan bases and the strong home atmospheres both programs have put together. This one has all the makings of a terrific football game.

The improvement of both programs is notable. Since Greenup County's first football season in 1973, the Musketeers have started 4-1 or better through their first five games just 10 times. Three of those starts have come under Travis Jones. Boyd County, meanwhile, opened this season 4-0 for the first time since 2005. Both programs are trending in the right direction.

Greenup County went 4-7 last season with a young roster, starting eight sophomores on each side of the ball. With much of that group returning, the Musketeers have taken a clear step forward. Offensively, they are averaging nearly 100 more rushing yards per game. They feature a strong two-man combination in quarterback Jasper Davis and running back Ashur Wireman, who combine for more than 200 yards per game on the ground.

Davis also has a capable arm and does a good job hitting receivers in stride. Greenup's receivers are dangerous in space and difficult to bring down once they get into the open field. Defensively, the Musketeers are physical and aggressive, and they do a good job getting after the football.

For Boyd County, one of the key returning players is quarterback Jace Manning, who has already thrown for eight touchdowns this season. He is fun to watch because of how well he moves within the pocket, gets the ball out quickly, and can also be a tough runner when needed.

Jacob Carter continues to impress on the line and has drawn significant college interest from a young age. Cameron May is another standout athlete for Boyd County because of his versatility. He can be used in the running game, as a receiver, and has already returned a kickoff for a touchdown this season.

Overall, this should be a really good matchup between two improving programs with talented players, strong coaching, and energized communities behind them. If you are looking for a good Thursday night football game, this is definitely one worth watching.

Looking forward to this one. Greenup should be the favorite but I'm guessing the Lions are salivating wanting that winning feeling back again. Going with Greenup by a TD in a back and forth affair.
