South Warren Spartans takes a trip up to Rash Stadium to take on the Owensboro Red Devils in a pre-season match up. Both teams are coming off strong 2025 seasons. I admit I don’t know too much about the Spartans other than they’re always in the state title conversation and have great coaching. Owensboro is coming in off a pretty good first scrimmage against a strong 2A Mayfield squad. South Warren should give the Devils a better look be a top team in 6A. Who do you have coming out on top and why?

I think on the outside these teams matchup very well, I’d argue that Owensboro will have the best player on the field in the JR Dillard. A good measuring stick game for the Red Devils to see how well they are in the trenches on both sides of the ball. I like the matchup between Page and Ganaway, two of the better QB’s in WKY. Should be an interesting scrimmage, I’ll take the Spartans by a score or two.

Bad match up for Owensboro's offensive line I’m afraid South Warrens defense will have Ganaway running scared. But we should be able to see how good Owensboros offense is.

I also assume, but do not know, that we may have James Green video which is usually awesome quality:

Yeah South Warren is known for having a stout DLine. Will be a good test for the Devils. If the Oline can hold long enough for Ganaway to get some good throws off. That will be good news heading into wk1 St. X game.

Nice Thursday evening scrimmage to ease us into Friday.

If it is 2 hand touch on the QB, that severely limits G'way and it's not real game play. If the QB can't really scramble like at Mayfield that also hurts. Last year I believe the varsity tied, I expect a similar outcome. I expect both teams to work on things so when you are in the RZ you aren't always showing your entire week 1 playbook either, you go vanilla - I expect a little of that both ways. I'd be surprised Owensboro gave up 21 in a half of play and probably the same for SW. I expect about a 7-7 varsity score again. No injuries for both teams.

The broadcast is live.

Oboro with a long run on the first play. They are on the SW 43.

After the long run O went backwards and punted, SW ball on their 23.

I think two SW players had their helmets come off on the first play on offense.

SW looking very sloppy, they are punting from the 15.

O didn't do anything with their possession and punted back to SW where they will start on the 13.

0-0

This scrimmage lacks energy.

O stopped SW and O is on the 10 after a completed pass.
