AI & KY HS Football

Featured Replies

Just curious.... how are KY HS Football programs using AI?

Would be cool if you could do this: Turn your notes and drawings on Hudl into one document for your team: What we are doing well and What needs to be corrected. I emailed Hudl yesterday and right now that is not something they can do.

I did use ChatGPT to help with some terminology. That was pretty cool.

Interesting, as a high school football statistician, I'm thinking about it because of my background in IT. I don't believe my software has AI, but I can get lots of reports of it. I'll have to think about whether I can export some of the data for some useful purpose.

Maybe down the road can get a robot to call plays. Have it up in the booth analyzing the formations and then sends down the play to the coach. I wouldn't be surprised if this could happen in next 5 years the way AI and robots are being developed.

Not saying you are wrong, but that sounds nuts. And, I would not like that. For example, I really like analytics and they helped us alot at Mercer, but I never followed it, blindly. If my gut said go a different route , we did.

The surprise for me on the analytics...it told us to punt more often than I thought it would.

I would say the coach could override the robot's play call if don't like it. Definitely wouldn't follow it blindly.

Maybe I’m old school, but at what point do we just coach football?

Watch the film. Take your notes. Draw up the corrections. Build the scouting report. Teach your players.

If you need AI to watch your film, organize your thoughts, tell you what went wrong, and build your correction sheet, what exactly are you doing?

Technology is great, but some of this is getting ridiculous. Coaching is supposed to require work, not for looking for a shortcut for every damn thing.

I am afraid that AI won’t make coaches smarter; it’s just making lazy coaches more efficient at being lazy.

I consider AI as another tool in the toolbox. It should be used as such. It is a resource that can be leveraged to provide a team/coach an advantage. Those that get on board now could have a short term advantage while programs that don’t embrace the technology could one day be chasing to get caught up. Having great athletes is most important. Having a great coach and community is massively important. Those two things will never change. Using new techniques, changing with times, taking advantage of all the resources available may provide the slight edge for two closely ranked teams. That’s my take on AI in high school football.
