Split sessions for regional tourney?

Featured Replies

How many regions have split sessions for their regional tourney's because the gym they are held at is too small?

I feel if the gym is not big enough to hold all of the people that want to attend the games then the region should not be held in these gyms.

I agree. I feel it should be the same for the districts also.

Should be the same for the All A classic regionals.

If there is only 1 or 2 gyms in the region that is large enough to host it. Then they should rotate it between those schools.

I love the way the 12th is doing it, one year Lincoln hosts the boys while Pulaski hosts the girls, then the next year they switch. Wish some other regions would do the same kind of deal, and I agree this should be done in the All A and with the Districts as well.

OH boy, you should see another thread on here dealing with gym size and whether or not they should host! Are you sure you want to open this can of worms?? :D

Split sessions certainly do help with crowd sizes but they also place burden, on the Host site for workers, clean-up, hours of service, utilities, etc....since time is alloted between first session and second session, daily.

Not that one is better, than the other but tournaments with larger attendance, in smaller capacity gyms certainly work logistically with split-sessions for parking, viewing and convenience.

Pros and cons to both sides.

Maybe it is not the question about size of gym that a SCHOOL should be building but about the unbelievable fan base of that region.

Region 10 has an excellent facility at Mason County that has held it for numerous years. NO WAY, Mason County school system should consider building a larger complex.

No other facility in the 10th region is as large or has the resources as the Fieldhouse.

So the question is not, why such a small venue but rather, WOW what an incredible fan base in the 10th region.

Now, I am told the 10th region has an excellent 2nd facility in Mt. Sterling. That fan based will be tested next year with the longer drives. I do think that they will NOT suffer as much the first year because everyone will want to see the facility. The following years will be the test.

Directly about the split session, part of the issue has ZERO to do with the size of the facility but rather the seating. When the 10th region did not have split sessions if your teamed played 2nd, you best get there for the first game if you wanted a seat by the playing floor. Because certain schools traveled so well that their fans would have EVERY SINGLE SEAT in the lower seating section for both games.

Now with the split sessions all four schools will be sitting on the floor level to support their team.

Just about all the gyms in the 13th that host the region are big enough to hold the fans, but the greedy schools want more money so they often have split sessions.

I feel if the gym is not big enough to hold all of the people that want to attend the games then the region should not be held in these gyms.

What if there isn't a gym anywhere in the region large enough? You have to have it somewhere. Sometimes split sessions are required for reasons stated above.

We have a couple in the 14th though and to put the fans thru this mess is ridiculous when un-neccesary! Will be a big mess.

In the 15th Belfry had split sessions about 13 years ago and it was not liked . It took to long between games to clear the gym.
