Two losses in two nights by a total of three points. Did they lose this game also, by shooting badly at the free throw line again? Sure wouldn't want to play NewCath in the first round of the region.....One of these nights they just might start making those free shots......

WOW...Heartbreak City for the Breds. Back to back "cry-ers" against two of the areas top teams. No shame...lots of promise! Keep workin' hard.

NewCath, IMO, definitely has a legit shot at winning the 9th. They made about 60% of their free throws, shot better than Brossart I believe.

Mustangs dodge a major NCC bullet.

 

Mustangs down five 41-36. Jimmy Uebel hits a "3" and two key free throws down the stretch to preserve the victory.

Brossart up 12-6 at the quarter and 19-9 with 4:34 to go in the second period and it looked like another night at the office for the 22-3 Mustangs. NCC goes on a 15-2 run, making it 24-21 just before the half, and Stangs tie it up at 24 at the half.

 

Brossart pushed back to a 6 point lead at 33-27 at the 1:42 mark of the third, but again the Breds answer, knotting the score at 34-34 after three.

 

Mustangs lucky to win - but they say the sign of a good team is the ability to play poorly and still win. Ugly game - NCC never gave up.

No double figure scorers for NCC who played without Zach Kiernan. Jesse Huesman led the Breds with 9.

 

Mustangs face Mason County in Maysville on Tuesday.

The breds played hard throughout and Brossart was very fortunate to win the game. Great effort by Phil Horan of ncc. Brossart appeared to have a major hangover from the All A.

Very nice win for the Mustangs and now on to the rematch that I'm sure A LOT of people have been looking forward to.

Also, great effort by junior Burke Beiting and sophmore Steffen Roll, who gave NC great minutes off the bench when others were in foul trouble.

Also to Dustin Giesler, who stepped up in place of Kiernan(ankle) and did a good job slowing down Cooper and swatting 4 or 5 of his shots.

Tough couple of days for NewCath. Brossart comes away with a win in the classic "trap" game....right after All A and right before Mason Co.

Rough night for Cooper. He will be helped a lot when another starter returns after a month of being a cheerleader.

The play of the game may well have been with 22 seconds left in the 4th with nc up by 1 when Josh Kidney steals a pass intended for a cutter in the lane and calls time out as he is leaping out of bounds. After the TO Jimmy Uebel drives to the basket, gets fouled and makes both FTs. the breds call a TO with about 2 seconds left after which Lipscomb throws up a desperation 3, with Troy Cooper's hand in his face, that falls about a foot or so short. Brossart got the job done at crunch time against a very motivated nc team.
