This is really not my world, so I know I don't understand very well... but can anyone explain to me why these guys got fired? I really don't get it. Does a guy really get fired over a missed FG, or a botched Interception call? Or, after one season?

These are really good coaches who have invested a ton of work and there is reason to believe good things would have happened had they remained.  I don't doubt that there were problems for all of them with their teams. We all have them. I would just think these guys are too good and too much is invested to blow up the continuity. I would admit that I value continuity more than most. 

In addition to WHY these guys got fired. If you believe it was a good decision to fire them, I would be curious to hear your answer... and I would appreciate it.

I would say that in the case of Harbaugh and McDermott I think ownership thought they had taken them as far as they could and needed a new voice in the locker room. In the case of Carroll and Stefanski it was just horrible seasons. I am not sure about Morris.

These would be my assumptions:

Pete Carroll: Oldest HC to coach an NFL game. Very young core and the Raiders will be bringing in a new QB. The Geno Smith experiment did not work so Geno and Pete had to go. Brady is now going to reform the organization. The Raiders have to 2nd most cap space to work with and the number 1 overall pick. With all of that said, it all adds up to a fresh start IMHO.

John Harbaugh: He and Lamar didn't see eye to eye and the organization chose their QB over their HC.

Sean McDermott: As @16thBBall Fan mentioned, he may have taken them as far as he can. Josh Allen isn't getting any younger, and if McDermott can't get to the dance with Josh, maybe somebody else can.

Kevin Stefanski- Andrew Berry is trying to save his own butt as GM. The team started the season with 5 QBs on the roster and still don't know what they answer is for the position. Somebody had to lose their job. I think Cleveland let the wrong guy go (thankfully as a Bengals fan). Berry was the one who went all in for Watson over Baker. In the end I'm sure Berry threw Stefanski under the bus in hopes of saving his own job and at least for the moment he was successful.

Raheem Morris- Having the young offensive core of Robinson, London, and Pitts, I think the organization had different ideas for how to past 2 seasons would have gone. Signing Cousins and drafting Penix then not winning the division when most thought it was down I believe were the reason for dropping HC & GM.

Not saying any are wrong or right, but those guys get paid A L O T of money and didn't bring the results needed to keep those salaries.

This is a good summary.  I'd also add that Carroll was reportedly clashing with the Raiders GM and the GM won that battle so that's also why he's out.  But the Raiders as a franchise are a mess.  They keep running coaches through and nothing is getting established there.

I appreciate you going to the trouble to share this. It is tough for me to understand.. in each case, they thought blowing it up and starting over was better than trying to work through the problems, take advantage of the continuity and fix what needed to be fix. Generally speaking, blowing things up and starting over is not my preference. 

Heard Steve Klonne (Moeller) at a clinic one year. Even just in running an offense... He said to never throw it all out and start at zero. He said to take where you are and tweak it in the direction you want to go. I never forgot that advice and thought it had alot of wisdom.
