Featured Replies

We're half way through the season and we've seen a lot of basketball across the state including across the 14th region.

1) Powell County (7-5): The Pirates picked up two district wins last week, defeating Estill County in both of those games, 88-55 and 83-37. The Pirates played a thriller of a game against Boyd County in the 2A Finals at Estill County. Boyd County would come out on top 77-73.

Upcoming Games: Tuesday vs. Owsley County, Friday at Wolfe County, Saturday vs. Harlan County (at Clay County).

2) Breathitt County (10-5): The Bobcats won the 14th Region All "A" classic. Bobcats had to pick up three wins to do it. Defeating Owsley County 83-61, Hazard 44-40 and Leslie County 48-46.

Upcoming Games: Tuesday at Harlan County, Thursday at Jackson City, Saturday at Phelps.

3) Hazard (8-7): The Bulldogs defeated Knott County Central 52-51 in the 14th Region All "A" Classic to snap a 3 game losing streak but the win was short lived as the Bulldogs would fall to Breathitt County 44-40 in the semi-finals of the 14th Region All "A" Classic.

Upcoming Games: Wednesday at Leslie County, Friday vs. Harlan IND.

4) Knott County Central (10-4): The Patriots split games in the 14th Region All "A" Classic, picking up a 57-40 win over Wolfe County. With the win the Pats would advance on to face Hazard. The Pats would lose a heartbreaker to the Bulldogs 52-51.

Upcoming Games: Tuesday at Letcher County Central, Thursday vs. June Buchanan, Friday at Perry County Central.

5) Letcher County Central (9-5): The Cougars picked up a big win over Magoffin County 91-56 to pick up their third straight win but that was short lived as they would fall to Southwestern on the road 77-63 to snap the three game win streak.

13. Jackson City (3-9).

14. Jenkins (9-5).

15. June Buchanan (2-11).

16. Cordia (0-14).

I agree with Powell County as the top team. They are playing great basketball right now. In the Boyd loss in the 2A they actually had a 1 point lead within the last minute and Boyd’s Spurlock made a 3 and Powell didn’t score and had to foul and ended up a 4 point loss. But Boyd County is a very good team.
Powell has a good defensive team and plenty of scorers, the most notable two are Morguson and Edwards. If they have one weakness they are not a team with great size. But I believe they have enough firepower to get them out of the 14th this year and onto the Rupp Arena court in March.

I thought they had decent size when they played at Somerset.  #1 and #5 had pretty good length.  Not much bulk though.
