The power 4 Conferences Champions, will be seeded 1-4. Then you have 8-12 more slots available, depending on if you have a 12 or 16 team playoff. Those final 8-12 teams will be seeded 5-16, then you play 1vs16: 2vs15 etc. But there will be no G-5 schools included. 

You can have a 12 or 16 team playoff for the G-5 schools it's like the NIT in basketball. Between last season and this year, should be proof enough that no G-5 schools deserve to be in the big boy playoffs. It's nonsense to have these schools taking the place of a ND or a Texas or Vandy or BYU. One of those schools would have been much better games and a possibility of winning vs Oregon or Ole Miss than Tulane or JMU had. In addition, there is a ton of money in TV contracts and I'm sure the ratings for those games would not have had the ratings a ND/Texas/Vandy/BYU would have had. 

Sustainable? It's easy, fans want to see big time football, play big time football even in their nonconference games.

This is a recipe for a court challenge on anti-trust grounds.  The G5 are not going to tolerate this and will win a lawsuit on it as well, especially when they have paid millions to join Division I in football.  The only way out of this would be a massive buyout of those schools by the power conferences.

No one will care about an NIT for the G5.  Ratings for that will be terrible.  Schools won't care about it either.  If that's your solution, these schools just need to go to FCS and call it a day at the FBS level.

Also, this super conference when it takes place it will fail.  No one is going to watch a glorified XFL/USFL.  When college sports really goes all-in on detaching itself from the university experience and sets up shop as a mini-NFL and mini-NBA and you see universities merely licensing their name out to teams, it will implode.
