Initial Forecast for KHSAA Football Championship Weekend

Friday will start cold, with temperatures in the low 30s around 10 AM EST before climbing into the mid-30s by 4 PM. Temperatures Friday night should continue to rise into the mid- to upper 30s, with wind chills hovering in the low 30s around 10 PM. No precipitation is expected.

Saturday looks a bit more comfortable for early December. Temperatures will be in the mid- to upper 30s by 10 AM and warm into the mid- to upper 40s by 4 PM. Expect readings to hold in the mid to upper 40s through 10 PM. Late-evening precipitation isn’t out of the question, depending on the speed of an approaching system.

The only notable change at this point is for Saturday. Temperatures are trending colder as an arctic air mass moves in. Expect readings to fall into the low to mid-30s by around 7 PM EST, then continue dropping into the mid- to upper 20s by 10 PM EST.


Layer up—Wear multiple thin layers to trap heat better.

Forecast for Today and Tomorrow’s Championship Games

Friday:
Expect a cloudy sky with light northerly winds at 3–5 mph early, shifting to the west/southwest as the day goes on. Temperatures will start in the low 30s for the first game and slide into the upper 20s by the end of the final game. Wind chills will stay in the 20s throughout. No precipitation is expected.

Saturday:
Another cloudy day is on tap, with temperatures holding in the upper 30s all afternoon. For the first game, southwesterly winds of 5–10 mph will keep wind chills in the upper 20s. Winds will diminish after sunset. No precipitation is expected.

Enjoy and stay warm to whoever is going. I’ve spent some cold championship weekends watching and others that weren’t as bad. I probably would have went but my daughters field trip is today and it’s a birthday party weekend for them.
