Newport Central Catholic 26 Newport 6

It was 6-0 all the way into the 3rd quarter until a Pick 6 opened it up with 2:32 to go, 3Q. 12-0 NewCath. Eddie Bivens broke off a 36 yard touchdown run to go up 19-0 at 9:51, 4Q. After that Miles hit Stevie for their second TD connection to make it 26-0 at 2:54, 4Q. Finally, Newport got on the board with 34 yard Touchdown pass with only 1:09 to go but it was too little too late. Lots of Turnovers for both teams tonight.

A win is a win is a win, but what a sloppy game it was. Some times you'll have these types of games and it's better to come out on the winning side. There may have been more combined turnovers than flags. Neither team wanted to hang onto the ball. But give credit where it's due, NewCaths defense was nails all night as Newports offense could not move the ball until the very end. Breds getting it done, win the Bell and are finally seeing the fruits of a pretty tough pre-district schedule, payoff.

When you jump on that horse you better ride it... and I did say earlier this year that #2 was a thoroughbred.

Bivens is a dawg for sure. He doesn’t worry about contact one bit. He runs hard and hits hard.

This is one of the most lopsided "rivalries" around.  Just from this picture alone you can see the sparse amount of red plaque labels.  Newport had some really good teams that never seemed to be able to get over this hump.
